Strengthening Bonds at Sea: The Life-Changing Impact of Mother-Daughter Cruise

The mother-daughter relationship is one of a woman’s most profound and influential bonds. However, in today’s fast-paced world, this connection often faces challenges due to busy schedules, misunderstandings, or simply a lack of dedicated time together. Studies highlight the importance of nurturing this bond, as it significantly impacts emotional well-being and life satisfaction. According to a Pennsylvania State University study, researcher Karen Fingerman, PhD, found that approximately 80% to 90% of midlife mothers’ daughters report having good relationships with their mothers. However, many wish it were even better.  This underscores women’s shared desire to strengthen their relationships with their mothers. 65% of women who did not have a close relationship with their mothers later regretted not taking more opportunities to bond, according to a survey by the American Psychological Association. These statistics emphasize the need for intentional efforts to foster and maintain solid mother-daughter connections. Why Connection Matters: The Lifelong Benefits of Mother-Daughter Bonds Research consistently shows that strong mother-daughter relationships contribute significantly to emotional health. The study found that daughters who felt connected to their mothers during childhood reported lower rates of depression. At the same time, they have higher self-esteem and resilience as adults. Meanwhile, mothers with close bonds to their daughters often experience greater life satisfaction, lower stress levels, and improved overall health. This relationship isn’t just beneficial; it’s transformative. Even in the business, the ripple effects of this bond can be powerful. Employees who carry the skills fostered in a strong mother-daughter relationship are often natural team players, excel at navigating interpersonal dynamics with poise, and compassion. They bring a collaborative spirit, a knack for problem-solving, and a genuine desire to uplift others—qualities that enhance any business culture. For employers, supporting family-friendly policies and encouraging work-life balance can cultivate a workplace where these strengths flourish, contributing not only to individual well-being but also to a positive, motivated, and high-performing team. Experiences that Build Lasting Connections  In response to this need, the Mother-Daughter Cruise by Samara Beth had the idea to create a unique experience. It is far more than just a vacation. The cruise is designed to help build and strengthen this unique connection, allowing both mothers and daughters to step away from the daily routine and focus on what truly matters: each other. “What makes this cruise special,” says Samara Beth, the retreat’s creator and a mother herself, “is that it’s dedicated time just for the generations of females to bond. of you. As a mom, I understand the value of these moments, the way they can fill in the gaps of our relationship and bring us closer in ways that everyday life just doesn’t allow.” A carefully curated selection of bonding workshops and wellness activities is designed to foster honest communication, self-reflection, and understanding. Onboard sessions are led by relationship coaches and wellness experts, who facilitate open conversations on topics like handling life’s challenges together, letting go of past disagreements, and setting future goals as a team. These workshops encourage grandmothers, mothers and daughters to see each other in a new light, highlighting the unique strengths and perspectives each brings to their relationship. In addition to workshops, the cruise includes wellness and relaxation activities such as yoga classes, meditation sessions, and spa treatments. These moments provide an opportunity to unwind together. They give them an opportunity to focus solely on the experience of being present with one another – away from daily stressors. Adventuring Together: A Shared Journey Through Beautiful Destinations Set to sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, in July 2025, the Mother-Daughter Cruise spans seven days aboard the brand new Norwegian Aqua, a state-of-the-art vessel designed for comfort and adventure. The cruise welcomes women of all ages, whether young mothers with their daughters or adult daughters reconnecting with aging mothers. The goal is to provide structured and free-form time for guests to explore together without the pressures and interruptions of daily life.  One of the highlights of the Mother-Daughter Cruise is the chance to explore beautiful Caribbean destinations together. Each stop on the itinerary—Great Stirrup Cay, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Puerto Plata—offers tailored excursions, providing unique experiences that allow mothers and daughters to connect in new environments. At Great Stirrup Cay, a private island, they can enjoy snorkeling, paddle boarding, and nature trails, creating shared adventures and memories in a breathtaking setting. In St. Thomas, mothers and daughters can tour historic landmarks or shop for local crafts, adding a personal touch to their journey. Tortola offers adventures such as kayaking and scenic hikes. At the same time, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic presents opportunities to explore local markets, sample authentic cuisine, and enjoy the island’s natural beauty. Research from the University of Kansas shows that families who engage in novel, shared experiences report higher emotional closeness and empathy, supporting the cruise’s mission of bringing families closer through meaningful travel. Relaxing in Style: Luxurious Staterooms and Onboard Amenities Accommodations on the Norwegian Aqua cater to every level of comfort and privacy. Mothers, daughters, and granddaughters can choose balcony staterooms to enjoy private ocean views or more spacious suites. Each cabin has modern amenities, including internet access, dining credits, and beverage packages, to ensure a seamless and enjoyable stay. Norwegian Aqua is a luxurious ship that blends relaxation spaces and exciting activities. Guests can experience thrills like The Drop, a ten-story spiral slide, or unwind at the Vibe Beach Club, a private adults-only area with infinity hot tubs and plush lounges. Onboard dining offers everything from gourmet meals to casual bites, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations over shared meals. The cruise’s all-inclusive nature allows guests to focus entirely on the experience without concerns over additional costs or distractions. Addressing Regrets and Building Lifelong Memories For many women, the regret of not investing more in their mother-daughter relationship can be deeply felt as they get older. The American Psychological Association’s survey revealed that missed bonding opportunities are a common source of remorse. The Mother-Daughter Cruise helps address this by offering mothers, daughters, and granddaughters

Love Takes Flight at Miami Carnival: “Did She Say Yes?”

The sky above Miami lit up with the colors of the Trinidadian flag as a crowd roared in excitement. The rhythmic beats of soca music filled the air, but for one couple, this moment was about to change their lives forever. Beneath the dazzling drone display, Paris knelt down, ring in hand, and asked the question that everyone held their breath—”Will you marry me?” The cheers could be heard from blocks away, and in that moment, love became the heart of Miami Carnival. But no one heard her answer. Videos of hundreds of people went viral on Social Media trying to find the couple. For Paris and Shivani, Carnival isn’t just a festival—it’s where their love story began. Their viral proposal in 2023 added a new chapter to the centuries-old tradition of Carnival, blending vibrant culture with a modern love story that has captivated thousands online. This year, as Miami Carnival celebrates its 40th anniversary, the couple returns to the place where it all started, adding even more significance to their journey. A Tradition of Culture, Celebration, and Unity Miami Carnival is one of the biggest cultural events in the United States, drawing participants from all over the world who come to celebrate Caribbean culture, heritage, and the spirit of unity. Established in 1984, this vibrant festival has become a major attraction for Caribbean nationals and anyone who appreciates the colorful, high-energy celebration of life that Carnival represents. Every year, during the Columbus Day weekend in October, Miami transforms into a Caribbean paradise, where the streets are filled with dazzling costumes, pulsating music, and the infectious rhythm of soca, calypso, and reggae. Rooted in the traditions of the Caribbean islands, particularly from places like Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados, Miami Carnival has evolved into an inclusive event that brings together people of all backgrounds. Its roots trace back to the pre-Lenten celebrations of European settlers, which were blended with African, Indian, and indigenous influences over centuries. What emerged was a joyous celebration of freedom, resistance, and cultural expression. Miami Carnival, like its counterparts in Trinidad, New York, and Toronto, offers a space for the Caribbean diaspora to reconnect with their heritage while sharing it with the broader world. A Melting Pot of Cultural Expression At the heart of Miami Carnival are the Mas bands—groups of revelers who don elaborate, handcrafted costumes designed to reflect the beauty and history of Caribbean culture. Paris and Shivani played Mas with Gen X, one of the most popular bands in Miami Carnival, known for their vibrant costumes, innovative designs, and energetic performances. “The experience of playing Mas is indescribable,” Shivani says. “You feel the energy of the crowd, the music, the colors—it’s like stepping into another world where everyone is united in celebration.” From J’Ouvert, the dawn party where revelers cover themselves in paint and powder, to the grand parade that stretches through the streets of Miami, the festival is an explosion of creativity, art, and sound. Soca music, with its fast tempo and uplifting beats, keeps the crowd moving as masqueraders dance from sunrise to sunset. “Soca is more than just music—it’s a way of life,” Paris explains. “It’s the heartbeat of Carnival, and it brings people together like nothing else.” Beyond the parade and parties, Miami Carnival also hosts a variety of cultural events, including steel pan performances, culinary showcases, and concerts featuring the biggest names in Caribbean music. It’s a celebration that spans days, where each element—from the food to the music—represents a piece of the Caribbean’s rich and diverse history. For the Caribbean community in Miami and beyond, Carnival is not just about having fun; it’s a time to honor their ancestors, celebrate freedom, and share their culture with the world. Paris and Shivani: A Love Story Born in the Heart of Carnival For Paris and Shivani, Carnival will always hold a special place in their hearts. Paris had been attending Miami Carnival for years before he met Shivani in 2021. Playing mas, enjoying the festivities, and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere was nothing new to him—but when he spotted Shivani, everything changed. “I saw her, and I just knew I had to meet her,” Paris recalls. “The energy of Carnival is unlike anything else, and it gave me the courage to approach her and ask for a picture.” Their initial interaction was brief, but as fate would have it, they reconnected through social media two weeks later. From texting to FaceTiming every day, Paris and Shivani quickly formed a deep connection, despite living in different states. “Carnival is about bringing people together, and that’s exactly what happened to us,” Shivani says. “We went from strangers sharing a quick moment to being in each other’s lives every day.” The following year, in 2023, their love story reached its peak during the Miami Carnival when Paris proposed in a moment that went viral. After a day of dancing, laughing, and celebrating, Paris led Shivani to a spot where drones lit up the Miami sky with the words, “Will you marry me?” For Shivani, it was the surprise of a lifetime. “I looked up, and at first, I didn’t get it,” she recalls. “But when I saw Paris kneeling with the ring, it all clicked. I couldn’t help but burst into tears—it was perfect.” And she said “YES”. Carnival’s Spirit of Love and Celebration Lives On As Paris and Shivani return to Miami Carnival this year, they do so as a reminder of the magic that can happen when love, culture, and celebration come together. Miami Carnival is not just a festival—it’s a living tradition where stories like theirs unfold against the backdrop of vibrant colors, contagious energy, and the universal language of music. “Carnival is where it all began for us,” Shivani says. “We’ll always be connected to it, not just because of our love story, but because it’s a part of who we are.” While their wedding plans are temporarily on hold due to personal reasons, Paris and

Miami’s Art Fans Find a New Muse in the AIM Gallery Vail

On the sun-soaked beaches of South Florida, Miami stands as a titan of contemporary art. Since Art Basel’s inaugural U.S. fair in Miami Beach in 2002, the city has transformed into a global art stronghold. Miami Art Week, which attracts more than 1,200 international galleries to its 20 art fairs, is just five months away. Where did the time go? As we anticipate the vibrant festivities, there’s another artistic gem to explore, about 2,200 miles away: The AIM Gallery in Vail, Colorado. A world-renowned destination for its skiing, diverse shops and restaurants, luxurious accommodations, friendly neighborhoods, and breathtaking mountain views. A Visionary Journey What does a doctor who changed countless lives do when his three children all have achieved their dreams and notable success? He creates artwork with the words that became the seeds of their legacy in order to impact even more lives, this time through words. The former renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mike Mycoskie has become a visionary artist, painting day and night to share the impact of affirmations, inspiration, and motivation with others. His wife Pam, a celebrated entrepreneur and cookbook author admits: “After 54 years of marriage, I believe I know Mike better than anyone, but I must admit I never saw this coming!”The gallery is an extraordinary space and experience where the power of words transforms into stunning visual art. The words inspire your mind, stir your soul, and uplift your spirit. The Power of Words Words possess the transformative power to shape our thoughts, emotions, and ultimately, our realities. This profound concept is brought to life through visual art. The gallery’s mission is to transform words into powerful visual expressions that affirm, inspire, and motivate. What we think manifests into our actions and our world, making the right words incredibly important. All artwork is a vibrant statement painted on quality canvas, some enhanced with diamond dust and decoupage. Visitors can commission their own unique pieces, making the experience personal and deeply meaningful. “In a world often overwhelmed by negativity, my artwork aims to be a beacon of hope and inspiration,” said Mike Mycoskie. “The right words at the right time can truly change lives, and this is a space where those words can be felt and experienced.” The Mycoskie Legacy of Inspiration The Mycoskie family’s influence extends far beyond the gallery walls. Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes; Paige Mycoskie, creator of Aviator Nation; and Tyler Mycoskie, founder of Dollar Driver Club, each carry forward the family’s legacy of positive impact. Words have been the foundation of the family’s success and philanthropic philosophy in business. The gallery highlights the profound impact of positive words, a concept that psychologists affirm can shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Miami’s Artistic Spirit Echoed in the Mountains Each year, many Miami residents escape to the snowy slopes of Vail and Aspen, blending their love for the arts with a passion for nature and outdoor adventures. The AIM Gallery Vail is a vibrant community hub, located in the Solaris Building, in the space formerly occupied by the Zuger Gallery. Hosting a variety of events, from intimate workshops to cultural celebrations, the gallery fosters creativity and connection. This dynamic approach ensures that every visit offers something new and enriching, making the gallery a lively addition to the local cultural scene.  Bridging Cultural Landscapes The opening of the AIM Gallery Vail on July 1 marked a significant addition to Vail’s cultural narrative and offers Miami’s art enthusiasts a compelling reason to explore beyond the city’s borders. Dr. Mike Mycoskie’s vision, supported by his family, brings together words and visual art in a way that inspires and uplifts. Recognizing the significant Latin community in Vail, the second largest in the area, the gallery also features artworks in Spanish. This inclusive approach ensures that the gallery’s inspiring messages are accessible to all, reflecting the diverse fabric of the community. The three-time Emmy award nominee Dondré Whitfield will host the “Best of the ABFF Awards”, at the New World Center. The festival also serves as a qualifying event for the Academy Awards® Short Film Awards, enhancing its prestige and impact. Further extending its influence, ABFF has partnered with American Airlines for the third consecutive year to feature a dedicated ABFF channel on their inflight entertainment system, reaching over 200 million travelers annually. This partnership ensures that the diverse content celebrated at the festival is available to a global audience throughout the year. Mo Brown’s Inspiring Journey In the midst of this glittering event, Mo Brown from New York stands out with her short film “Mo Brown’s Bodega,” which has its world premiere at the festival. This engaging narrative dives into the quirky life of a local NYC bodega owner trying to escape her family business to chase her wildest dreams. Brown, who directed, wrote, and produced the film, shared her inspiring journey: “When I first started in film as a director, there were barely any Brown women. I worked among so many men, dealt with sexism, and faced personal health challenges. Despite these obstacles, I persevered and created ‘Mo Brown’s Bodega.’ I hope to inspire others to push through their challenges. Support like this festival is invaluable.” About the ABFF Since its founding in 1997 by Jeff and Nicole Friday, the American Black Film Festival has grown into a cornerstone event, dedicated to showcasing the work of Black filmmakers. It provides a vital platform for both emerging and established artists to present their work, championing diversity and inclusion in the film and television industry. The festival’s mission is to highlight the best in Black cinema and foster a community of creators redefining the narrative of Black experiences in film. Celebrating Excellence and Diversity ABFF’s commitment to celebrating excellence and diversity in film is evident in its programming and the success stories it fosters. By providing a platform for underrepresented voices, the festival not only showcases talent but also inspires future generations of filmmakers. The presence of high-profile celebrities and industry veterans at the festival underscores its importance and influence within the film community. Looking Forward As the festival continues throughout the week, attendees can look forward to an array of screenings, panel discussions, and networking events designed to celebrate and elevate Black storytelling. A Look Back At Miami Fashion Week

By Karen Huggins Miami has become the capital of Latin America and  Miami Fashion Week has shown us why. Five days full of fashion, Latin American designers and colorful collections. The first day we started with the press conference at the Kimpton EPIC Miami and a Kick Off party at Saks Fifth Avenue Brickell where fashionistas, fashion lovers, celebrities and influencers, gathered to preview beautiful pieces of different designers. Guests enjoyed music, cocktails and bites from Casa Tua. The second day, the show begins! We started early in the morning with the MIAFW summit “Sustainability & Technology”. This is one of my favorite topics in fashion, all the trends and new projects of different brands to make the fashion industry a sustainable industry. In the afternoon, Rene Ruiz opened the fashion week shows at Ice Palace Film Studios with the launch of his new brand: Rene by RR, a younger line that goes from day to evening. The following show, Agatha Ruiz de La Prada; a funny, colorful and playful collection. First row with Spanish celebrities such as Amaia Salamanca, Nieves Alvarez, and Antonio Banderas…. Third day of Miami Fashion Week, beautiful shows from Daniella Batlle, Herminas Reea and Vero Diaz. I loved the top designer of Haute Couture dresses, Herminas Reea collection; the dresses with sumptuous fabric choices and accessories for their hair were gorgeous.  After the runways, The MIAFW Benefit Gala was celebrated at Faena Forum in South Beach. Antonio Banderas hosted the event and the Colombian singer Juanes had the crowd dancing. On Saturday, the Influencers brunch took place at Seaspice Restaurant. A morning full of Mimosas and fashion. Imagery Courtesy of Louis Vuitton Louis Vuitton presents from its Objets Nomades collection in the pavilion of Design Miami/ 2017 from December 6th to 10th, an exclusive turquoise-colored edition of the Bomboca Sofa, a new piece by Fernando and Humberto Campana. Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades is an ever-expanding collection of limited-edition, collectable furniture, which is inspired by the House’s historic Art of Travel, while reinterpreting its essential spirit. Driven by creativity, functionality and innovation for more than 160 years, Louis Vuitton has constantly anticipated fashion and kept pace with evolving lifestyles. This combination of the House’s savoir-faire and the talents of renowned designers has created inventive shapes, materials   and products – a tradition that continues with the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades. The sofa features the same leather that is used by Louis Vuitton for its bags along with cushions made of textured fabrics and velvet in five different shades of blue and turquoise. Other Objets Nomades making their Design Miami/ 2017 debut include the pieces created by Atelier Oï such as the Swing Boat, the Belt Chair and the Spiral Lamp with its twisted straps of leather. Also presented are Patricia Urquiola’s Palaver Chair in a mix of wood and woven sheets of perforated leather, India Mahdavi’s Talisman Table in leather marquetry, and Marcel Wanders’ rocking Lune Chair and leather Diamond Screen.
