Miami’s Art Fans Find a New Muse in the AIM Gallery Vail

On the sun-soaked beaches of South Florida, Miami stands as a titan of contemporary art. Since Art Basel’s inaugural U.S. fair in Miami Beach in 2002, the city has transformed into a global art stronghold. Miami Art Week, which attracts more than 1,200 international galleries to its 20 art fairs, is just five months away. Where did the time go? As we anticipate the vibrant festivities, there’s another artistic gem to explore, about 2,200 miles away: The AIM Gallery in Vail, Colorado. A world-renowned destination for its skiing, diverse shops and restaurants, luxurious accommodations, friendly neighborhoods, and breathtaking mountain views. A Visionary Journey What does a doctor who changed countless lives do when his three children all have achieved their dreams and notable success? He creates artwork with the words that became the seeds of their legacy in order to impact even more lives, this time through words. The former renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mike Mycoskie has become a visionary artist, painting day and night to share the impact of affirmations, inspiration, and motivation with others. His wife Pam, a celebrated entrepreneur and cookbook author admits: “After 54 years of marriage, I believe I know Mike better than anyone, but I must admit I never saw this coming!”The gallery is an extraordinary space and experience where the power of words transforms into stunning visual art. The words inspire your mind, stir your soul, and uplift your spirit. The Power of Words Words possess the transformative power to shape our thoughts, emotions, and ultimately, our realities. This profound concept is brought to life through visual art. The gallery’s mission is to transform words into powerful visual expressions that affirm, inspire, and motivate. What we think manifests into our actions and our world, making the right words incredibly important. All artwork is a vibrant statement painted on quality canvas, some enhanced with diamond dust and decoupage. Visitors can commission their own unique pieces, making the experience personal and deeply meaningful. “In a world often overwhelmed by negativity, my artwork aims to be a beacon of hope and inspiration,” said Mike Mycoskie. “The right words at the right time can truly change lives, and this is a space where those words can be felt and experienced.” The Mycoskie Legacy of Inspiration The Mycoskie family’s influence extends far beyond the gallery walls. Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes; Paige Mycoskie, creator of Aviator Nation; and Tyler Mycoskie, founder of Dollar Driver Club, each carry forward the family’s legacy of positive impact. Words have been the foundation of the family’s success and philanthropic philosophy in business. The gallery highlights the profound impact of positive words, a concept that psychologists affirm can shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Miami’s Artistic Spirit Echoed in the Mountains Each year, many Miami residents escape to the snowy slopes of Vail and Aspen, blending their love for the arts with a passion for nature and outdoor adventures. The AIM Gallery Vail is a vibrant community hub, located in the Solaris Building, in the space formerly occupied by the Zuger Gallery. Hosting a variety of events, from intimate workshops to cultural celebrations, the gallery fosters creativity and connection. This dynamic approach ensures that every visit offers something new and enriching, making the gallery a lively addition to the local cultural scene.  Bridging Cultural Landscapes The opening of the AIM Gallery Vail on July 1 marked a significant addition to Vail’s cultural narrative and offers Miami’s art enthusiasts a compelling reason to explore beyond the city’s borders. Dr. Mike Mycoskie’s vision, supported by his family, brings together words and visual art in a way that inspires and uplifts. Recognizing the significant Latin community in Vail, the second largest in the area, the gallery also features artworks in Spanish. This inclusive approach ensures that the gallery’s inspiring messages are accessible to all, reflecting the diverse fabric of the community. As you gear up for Art Basel in December, the opening provides a timely reminder of the universal power of art. This summer, let the spirit and power of words ignite your imagination and inspire your soul. Plan Your Visit Open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM, with extended hours during special events and local festivals, Dr. Mike Mycoskie and his team invite everyone to explore the transformative power of words through art. Whether you’re a Miami resident planning a mountain getaway or a local in Vail, the gallery promises a memorable and uplifting experience. Miami Sizzles as the American Black Film Festival Kicks Off

By: Chandra Moore. Miami Beach is the place to be as the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) lights up the city from June 12-17, 2024. The city streets are abuzz with the hum of luxury cars, the flash of paparazzi cameras, and the excited chatter of fans hoping to spot their favorite stars. Celebrated as the premier festival for Black culture and talent, ABFF has once again transformed Miami Beach into a dazzling showcase of cinematic excellence. Rae: Tyren Redd / Barris: Matt Sayles /  DuVernay: Cheryl Sanchez  Celebrities Flock to Miami Beach The festival’s opening night was a star-studded spectacle, with Hollywood royalty descending on the city. Denzel Washington, the legendary actor and director, was honored with a special retrospective celebrating his illustrious career. Issa Rae, serving as this year’s creative director, brought her signature flair to the event, while Jeffrey Wright, the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Tony Award winner, received accolades for his contributions to the arts. Other A-list attendees included Vivica A. Fox, La La Anthony, and Jussie Smollett, turning Miami Beach into the epicenter of Black excellence. The Impact of ABFF and Women of Color in Film The American Black Film Festival plays a crucial role in promoting diversity in the film industry. According to the UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report 2024, women of color represented only 10.6% of film directors and 14.4% of film writers in 2023. These statistics highlight the ongoing challenges and the importance of festivals like ABFF in providing a platform for underrepresented voices. Spotlight Screenings 2024: A Showcase of Excellence The 2024 Spotlight Screenings features a dynamic array of projects from top networks and streamers. Highlights include the much-anticipated Devil in a Blue Dress starring Denzel Washington, courtesy of Sony Picture Entertainment; the premiere of Down In the Valley, a documentary series inspired by the vibrant world of “P-Valley” from STARZ; the world premiere of Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys, a documentary on Wu-Tang Clan’s founding member Ol’ Dirty Bastard from A&E; and the second season of UnPrisoned starring Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo, courtesy of Hulu. The Series finalists boast impressive world premieres such as Groupies, written, produced, and co-led by ABFF Alumni Daphnique Springs; On Second Thought, a thrilling suspense series featuring Andrea Lewis of Hulu’s Three Ways; Mo Brown’s Bodega, a quintessential NYC sitcom written, directed, and starring Mo Brown; and Unsolicited, a sharp, spontaneous comedy by Barshae Lowery. The Voices of Culture category, an invite-only, non-competitive section, presents a robust lineup of international works from the USA, Ghana, the United Kingdom, and France. Noteworthy entries include The Origin starring Morris Chestnut and directed by Jorge Sanchez; Lucille featuring Loretta Devine & Frankie Faison, directed by Warren S. L. Burke; the world premiere of 32 starring rising talent Shakira Ja’nai Paye; and the world premieres of Vigilante and X: The Interview, short films that highlight Black men in the superhero genre. The Winners of this year’s independent film awards and talent contest will be unveiled on Saturday, June 15. The three-time Emmy award nominee Dondré Whitfield will host the “Best of the ABFF Awards”, at the New World Center. The festival also serves as a qualifying event for the Academy Awards® Short Film Awards, enhancing its prestige and impact. Further extending its influence, ABFF has partnered with American Airlines for the third consecutive year to feature a dedicated ABFF channel on their inflight entertainment system, reaching over 200 million travelers annually. This partnership ensures that the diverse content celebrated at the festival is available to a global audience throughout the year. Mo Brown’s Inspiring Journey In the midst of this glittering event, Mo Brown from New York stands out with her short film “Mo Brown’s Bodega,” which has its world premiere at the festival. This engaging narrative dives into the quirky life of a local NYC bodega owner trying to escape her family business to chase her wildest dreams. Brown, who directed, wrote, and produced the film, shared her inspiring journey: “When I first started in film as a director, there were barely any Brown women. I worked among so many men, dealt with sexism, and faced personal health challenges. Despite these obstacles, I persevered and created ‘Mo Brown’s Bodega.’ I hope to inspire others to push through their challenges. Support like this festival is invaluable.” About the ABFF Since its founding in 1997 by Jeff and Nicole Friday, the American Black Film Festival has grown into a cornerstone event, dedicated to showcasing the work of Black filmmakers. It provides a vital platform for both emerging and established artists to present their work, championing diversity and inclusion in the film and television industry. The festival’s mission is to highlight the best in Black cinema and foster a community of creators redefining the narrative of Black experiences in film. Celebrating Excellence and Diversity ABFF’s commitment to celebrating excellence and diversity in film is evident in its programming and the success stories it fosters. By providing a platform for underrepresented voices, the festival not only showcases talent but also inspires future generations of filmmakers. The presence of high-profile celebrities and industry veterans at the festival underscores its importance and influence within the film community. Looking Forward As the festival continues throughout the week, attendees can look forward to an array of screenings, panel discussions, and networking events designed to celebrate and elevate Black storytelling. From world premieres to insightful conversations with industry leaders, ABFF offers a unique and enriching experience for all participants. Virtual Experience For those who can’t make it to Miami, the ABFF offers an extensive online segment. Virtual attendees can watch films, join panel discussions, and engage in networking opportunities, ensuring that the festival’s reach extends worldwide. This hybrid model continues to enhance the festival’s inclusivity, making it accessible to film enthusiasts everywhere. Azimut Yachts will also showcase 18 yachts, including three U.S. debuts – the Azimut 78, Azimut S8 and Azimut Grande 32 Metri – as well as the world premiere of the Azimut Verve 47.   Expanding its international portfolio, which includes luxury yacht builders and brokers from over 32 countries, the Miami Yacht Show will welcome yachts from new exhibitors this year, including Australia’s largest luxury boat builder Riviera Yachts; Dubai-based Majesty Yachts, and Taiwanese shipyard Horizon Yachts. Italian shipyard Invictus Yacht is also making its U.S. debut at the Miami Yacht Show, introducing Invictus Yacht USA and the U.S. debut of its GT370 model at its first American boat show.   Miami Yacht Show’s Superyacht Miami, located on Island Gardens Deep Harbour Marina on Watson Island, which can accommodate yachts up to 400 feet, will be transformed into an exclusive destination displaying show-stopping mega yachts such as BOLD; 248-foot BELLA VITA by Lurssen; 163-foot MISS MONEYPENNY V by Overmarine; 164-foot HOSPITALITY by Westport Yachts; 161-foot HUNTER by Trinity Yachts; and 154-foot USHER by Delta Marine.   Other superyachts displayed at the Miami Yacht Show will include the 163-foot THUNDER YACHT by Oceanfast; the 100-foot RUTLI E by Benetti; and the 100-foot Mb3 by Hargrave. Miami entrepreneurs Norman Braman and David Grutman will also showcase their yachts at the show, including Braman’s 175-foot KISSES and Grutman’s 81-foot GROOT, which has hosted many of Hollywood’s most recognizable celebs. With more than 15 new yachts at this year’s show; here is a small look at what’s debuting:  BOLD | SilverYachts | U.S. Debut BOLD is the fifth, largest and most recent superyacht by Australia’s premier luxury yacht builder SILVERYACHTS, harnessing the world’s leading fuel efficiency, and technical supremacy, defined by her predecessors. Working in collaboration with renowned yacht designer, Espen Øino, Silver Yachts showcases the unique flexibility of their efficient platforms. BOLD reveals aggressive styling, expansive interior and exterior spaces. 48 Wallytender X| Ferretti Group & Wally | World Debut Hot on the heels of the world debut of the exciting new 48 Wallytender this autumn, Wally with Ferretti Group will reveal at the upcoming Miami Yacht Show the first unit of a new, fully powered outboard version of the cutting-edge Wally day cruiser. Combined with a dependable hull design and a light carbon fiber construction from the in-house experts at Wally and Ferretti Group, the result is impressive: high top speeds and very low consumptions for extended range. Preliminary sea trials have indicated maximum speeds in excess of 55 knots and a cruising speed of 40 knots with a range of 320nm. Azimut 78 | Azimut Yachts | U.S. Debut At 23.60 meters in length (77 feet) and with a beam of 5.75 meters, the Azimut 78 is bringing futuristic design and ultra-modern technology as the new flagship in the Azimut Yachts Flybridge Collection. The ultra-innovative Azimut 78 is part of the Carbon-Tech generation and the first Flybridge to be fitted with three Volvo IPS propulsion units. Alberto Mancini, who designed the sleek, futuristic exteriors, and Achille Salvagni, the creator of the sophisticated interior design, took up and won the challenge thrown down by the Shipyard to achieve the perfect balance between ever more dynamic lines and ever larger volumes. The yacht’s layout offers the utmost comfort and privacy, with the clear separation of crew and guest flows, and a highly versatile day area to meet the needs of contemporary owners. Azimut Grande 32 Metri | Azimut Yachts | U.S. Debut The Azimut Grande 32 Metri is avant-garde in every sense, not least because of the multiple unprecedented solutions that establish its right to a prominent position as one of the world’s most advanced and modern superyachts, or the advanced naval platform that is packed with technology: the combination of Carbon Tech, D2P® hull and wave piercer (which increases the length at the waterline by 1.8 meters), results in peerless consumption efficiency. A Look Back At Miami Fashion Week

By Karen Huggins Miami has become the capital of Latin America and  Miami Fashion Week has shown us why. Five days full of fashion, Latin American designers and colorful collections. The first day we started with the press conference at the Kimpton EPIC Miami and a Kick Off party at Saks Fifth Avenue Brickell where fashionistas, fashion lovers, celebrities and influencers, gathered to preview beautiful pieces of different designers. Guests enjoyed music, cocktails and bites from Casa Tua. The second day, the show begins! We started early in the morning with the MIAFW summit “Sustainability & Technology”. This is one of my favorite topics in fashion, all the trends and new projects of different brands to make the fashion industry a sustainable industry. In the afternoon, Rene Ruiz opened the fashion week shows at Ice Palace Film Studios with the launch of his new brand: Rene by RR, a younger line that goes from day to evening. The following show, Agatha Ruiz de La Prada; a funny, colorful and playful collection. First row with Spanish celebrities such as Amaia Salamanca, Nieves Alvarez, and Antonio Banderas…. Third day of Miami Fashion Week, beautiful shows from Daniella Batlle, Herminas Reea and Vero Diaz. I loved the top designer of Haute Couture dresses, Herminas Reea collection; the dresses with sumptuous fabric choices and accessories for their hair were gorgeous.  After the runways, The MIAFW Benefit Gala was celebrated at Faena Forum in South Beach. Antonio Banderas hosted the event and the Colombian singer Juanes had the crowd dancing. On Saturday, the Influencers brunch took place at Seaspice Restaurant. A morning full of Mimosas and fashion. At 3:00 PM the shows started with Dash, then Miami Fashion Institute, Glory ANG and Fernando Alberto. Miami Fashion Week closed the last day with Jenny Polanco, Arcadio Diaz, Jacqueline Then and Gianinna Azar runway. Gianinna’s collection was amazing with chic looks for day and night. After the shows, the closing party began at Ice Palace Film Studios. A beautiful week that highlighted the importance Miami is gaining every year in Fashion.
