Top Fashion Blogger Karen Huggins Shares Her Favorite Miami Styles

I am Karen! A Venezuelan who spends as much time as possible on her greatest passion: traveling and exploring new things. What I love most are the people I meet and the way every place expresses fashion. It’s about discovering, feeling and living experiences, getting out of your comfort zone and enjoying the great adventure that life is.   Since I was a kid, I was obsessed with traveling the world that’s why I decided to study International Foreign Affairs. Traveling is the best way to learn and educate ourselves.    I have been living abroad since October 2007, taking a piece of every place in my heart: from Barcelona the beautiful multicultural philosophy, from Madrid the joy, from Argentina the passion, from Miami the sunshine state of mind and from Venezuela (my country) the latin flavor.   Fashion is my passion and I decided to create my personal blog on July 2017 in order to share with people my style ideas, travel tips and insights around the world. I want to highlight that fashion is for everyone, mixing high-street with high-fashion and most importantly, that style is all about being effortless chic.   I’m based in Miami since 2014 and would love to show you a list with my 5 favorite styles for Miami:   BBQ day: The weather in Miami is hot half of the year so I like to wear a light maxi dress, wedge sandals or mules (when in doubt https://www.revolve.com/ for dresses and shoes). Brunch: I like the classic and girly style so I will go with shorts and a  statement tank top – can be paired with high heels espadrilles and a tote bag  (I`m obsessed with the Artisan of IQ handbags and earrings https://artisansofiq.com/ )  Date night: a Black dress is always a good idea, I like the classic style for a date.   Events: I love Blazers and if I can wear them as a dress.. better! I pick a colorful blazer dress and elegant sandals, I would add statement earrings.  Now as for beach wear, I love the unique prints and designs from Camilla www.camilla.com and Agua de Coco Swimsuits and beachwear (check their popular instagram @aguadecoc). Don’t forget your sunglasses  sunglasses and hat! My 5 favorite beauty products to go with it: Sunscreen: SPF 50 every day on the face Serum:La Prairie Anti-Aging Rapid Response (it`s amazing how it erases dark spots and little blemish scars) Hydratate cream:La Prairie Interception Power Duo (Day-Night) BB Cream Dior: Dior Hydra Life BB Cream (the secret for a flawless skin in one product) Mascara: I always used luxury lines mascaras because I thought they were the best but once I found NYX Worth the Hype Mascara (recommended by an amazing makeup artist @dannymiamipower), I was amazed. Lip liner: Maybelline Nude lip Liner.    Check Karen’s blog www.karenhugginsblog.com  and follow her on instagram @karenhuggins_blog

Travel Talk with Lea Black

If Miami had a queen, it would be Lea Black. Smart, regal, powerful, classy and (luckily we live in America) stylish! Our favorite renaissance woman shines with IQ and EQ – so obviously we cared for her take on traveling and caught up with her just before she took off on a trip to LA … Lea Black:  Travel is usually stressful for most people. Some people love the travel part and others just love the getting there part. I’m the just get there girl. The airports, airplanes, preparation, scheduling, packing, carting the luggage around part is not something I enjoy, in fact I dread it.  But what is more exciting than being somewhere fabulous on a trip, especially a luxury trip? So, for me I like to keep it simple and basic. Travel light. Take things that are easily interchangeable, mix and match, comfortable yet chic. Items that don’t need a lot of fuss, that would be the ironing or steaming thing.  So here’s my plan… For clothes, a little black dress, a pair of black slacks, a pair of jeans, some casually elegant tops and shoes that will go with any of it, like a pair of basic pumps for night, platforms for day and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. If you have a basic blazer that goes with everything that’s an easy upgrade from a casual look, especially when you add the jewelry and a scarf. Add your undies and pj’s and you’re all set.  Depending on the length of travel, I may take a couple of extra slacks or tops, but always things that I can mix and match which will make for several outfits. Pack a few scarfs that go with everything, a day handbag and a night handbag, and maybe a clutch. A gorgeous scarf worn in an elegant style will make any outfit highly styled. Sometimes I take or wear a belt.  For accessories, sunglasses, perhaps a hat that packs well and the entire wardrobe will fit in a carry bag. The night hand bag will fit in the day bag and I carry that on the plane in my tote bag along with any cash or jewelry and identification. If traveling internationally convert a few dollars into local currency in advance so when you arrive you have cab fare, tipping or any miscellaneous items you might want to pick up on the way to the hotel.  Add a stunning pair of sunglasses and you’re all set.  Don’t laugh, but if I’ve used items I know I won’t use again for the duration, like things that need cleaning or items I’ve purchased along the way, I fold/ pack them nicely and put in a small box I have the concierge at the hotel provide when I check in and the day before I leave I have my pre paid ground Fedex label ready to put on the box and drop it off at the concierge, usually to arrive about two days after I’m home. This lightens my return luggage and allows a little extra space for any last minute purchases.  I’ve found if I roll items verses fold them in my carry on, they’re far less wrinkled and usually don’t require much steaming. But if they do, the quick easy remedy is to put on a clothes hanger and hang in the bathroom and turn on the hot water in the shower and the wrinkles steam right out. For jewelry, and yes, I’m an addict. I only take the Fine jewelry that I can wear unless it’s a long trip. And if I do take a few extra small pieces they are usually safety pinned inside my bra or on my person, (I have been known to wear two watches at once on a plane, hidden under long sleeves or a necklace and pearls, hidden under a scarf). But be aware of what might set the security alarm off and if a concern put in a small bag inside your handbag and as soon as I get through security, I head to the restroom with my secret jewelry plan. My jewelry is safer on  me than in my handbag. And if I have to exit in a hurry, I won’t need to try to grab my jewelry while exiting the plane. In addition I usually pack a few pieces of fashion jewelry, depending where I’m going and length of trip I may just wear or carry mostly fashion/ costume pieces. Earrings, necklace or pearls and cuff, is all you need if you wear a ring and keep it on. Never ever take off a ring to wash your hands. Only take it off to put away or to clean.  And the second I get to the hotel- I lock my good pieces in the room safe unless I’m wearing them. When I book my hotel, I require three things: a no smoking room, a tub, and a secure safe. Other than that I just try to go with the flow.  Cosmetics and toiletries;  I have pre packed at all times in a small clear bag the basics, a new unwrapped tooth brush and tooth paste. My daily skin care routine that is about a three – minute regime a night and a one-two minute regime every morning. I of course use the LeaBlackBeauty facial wash every morning and every night. Followed by the LeaBlack serum day and night. I use the LeaBlack Intensive Moisturizer Lotion under my make up in the morning and the Lea Black Beauty Intensive Moisture Creme at night. This keeps my skin completely hydrated and keeps my skin and pores clean. To help keep the pores small and unclogged and my skin buffed and with a glow, I use the LeaBlackBeauty Exfoliator. This is my Miracle Secret that I use two to three times a week to scrub off the old cells and deep cleanse the pores. That’s my daily skincare regime quick and easy – 5

Multitasking Sportswear? Yes Please!

Active wear has become every wear. It is often stylish enough to make it by the velvet rope and if you are serious about working out and looking great, you have plenty of options that slim you down or keep you dry or simply support your exercises.  One of the new gurus in the active wear arena is Nathalie de Champlain, Founder of Caliloko. She made the sought after ingredient “compression” her main focus while injecting a high dosage of fashionista in her designs. Since she also knows a lot about fitness and nutrition, we felt compelled to direct some personal questions her way. MSM: As a trendsetter in the active wear business, what do you see as the main trends for the coming season? NDC: Since I am a competitive squash player, high-performance fitness athlete, entrepreneur and busy mom of two sons, I know how important fitness, style and comfort are to me – and I’m certain for all who include fitness into their daily routines.   As the fitness, health and wellness trend is increasingly becoming a key part of many people’s lives, wearing compression technology clothing to prevent injuries and reduce soreness is now added to the shopping list. However, technical wear has to be stylish, durable and very comfortable. The coming season will continue to see new lightweight textures and fabrics as well as a lot of matching sets of long tights, capris and shorts with tank tops and sports bras. Tones are more neutral. Women will continue to wear their leggings with hoodies and post-workout lightweight layers. MSM: In a booming but highly competitive active wear market, you saw a niche … tell us what you saw. NDC: Over the past couple of years, after testing compression wear during competitions, long runs, recovery (including while sleeping) after a race or even when we travelled long distances, my husband and I realized that compression clothing helped us recover much faster, reduce soreness and prevent injuries. However, the products available then in the highly technical active wear market were not fashionable and not always comfortable. I saw a unique opportunity to make technical more fashionable clothes by creating a premium range of high quality products — helping to boost performance and prevent muscle injury all while looking amazing. MSM: What sets your brand apart from the others ? NDC: Caliloko is different in many ways. We are technical with a fashion twist. It sets us apart.  Our designs are nothing like what we see out there. We bring the compression wear industry to a new level of experience and a more prominent part of people’s wardrobes. We use body mapping to guide the technical drawings and created patterns and textures that are unique to our brand. We sculpt the body and bring health benefits, with fabrics that are breathable, moisture wicking and anti-bacterial with UPF 50+ sun protection.  MSM: For those who just decided to get fit and dress the part, what work out routine and matching outfits do you recommend to get “started” ? NDC: Fitness is so important for everyone so I recommend for newbies to start slow and gradually incorporate a fitness element as part of a weekly routine. Add fitness in your agenda and stick to it, treat it like a client meeting or an important presentation. I also recommend buddy training. It is way more motivating, fun and consistent. Caliloko is dress ready. You can wear our active tights under gym pants or as a single layer to tackle your leg day or any of your fitness activities such as jogging, running, cross fit training. Should you choose yoga, a long walk or spinning, our recovery long tights are perfect for you. You can also use them for your post-training recovery and some people even sleep in them to reduce soreness the next day. You look good on the street and in bed! MSM: What’s your personal work-out routine? NDC: As fitness and squash are part of my life, they allow me to channel my energy, and feel more balanced as a mother and business woman. I have built in strength, cardio and core training in my schedule and mix it with squash drills and matches. My husband is also very involved into fitness as an amateur triathlete and Ironman. We use compression daily and it allows us to get going and enjoy our high intensity workout routines. He even uses our recovery long tights through the night after a long distance run or bike ride. Since we travel a lot, we also use our long tights on planes and when we need to stand on our feet for many hours. It helps to avoid swollen muscles and reduces soreness. MSM: Any diet secrets to boost the work out results? NDC: We love to eat healthy at home. It is a way of life and it has become even more important when 10 years ago, we learned that my husband’s cholesterol level was too high. As the main cook of the house, I then started to control what we ate; avoiding processed food and red meat. I started to prioritize super foods, fish, grains, fruits and vegetables in our diet. Since then, my husband’s cholesterol level is under control and actually way under the harmful levels. And as part of our fitness, we regularly make our fresh juices (using a juicer) and smoothies especially within 20 minutes after a workout where your body absorbs fuels in the most optimal way. What boosts our workout results is the combination of our healthy eating habits, combined with proper hydration and enough hours of sleep.  For more information on Caliloko and their products, visit them today at www.Caliloko.com [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10429″]

Waist Nice, Figur8

By MSM Staff Photography Credits: Josh Eskridge Figur8 Shapewear – That is. South Florida native April Alonso and British socialite Olesia VB are taking the latest fashion fascination that is the waist trainer and building a brand that empowers women worldwide to rock their curves and turn heads in any scenario. MSM: What is waist training? F8: Waist training, waist cinching, or corset wearing in one definition or another, has been around for centuries. Waist training isn’t about getting “skinny”. When done correctly, waist training offers a safe, effective, and sexy way to rock an hourglass figure and accentuate the beautiful curves women already have, instantly. We’ve taken waist training to a new level by combining the smooth shaping effects of 100% latex, with the posture refining power of steel bones to deliver results that shape the mid-section to give you a figure eight physique you can flaunt at the gym, on the town, or at the office. MSM: How is Figur8 so different? F8: We are obsessed with our waist trainers and the women who rock them. At every stage, from design to delivery, our Figur8 Ladies are #1, and there’s a lot of self-reflection at every stage to make sure that happens.  We want our ladies to put on that trainer for the first time, look in the mirror – and say “damn”. But even more importantly, waist training isn’t supposed to be miserable- which is why we use only the best quality materials and communicate one-on-one with our customers to make sure they get the right size to suit their needs and experience with waist training. Ongoing use of a Figur8 Trainer will have you moving towards that perfect figure eight silhouette in no time. The immediate results go beyond just aesthetic appearances, wearing a waist trainer makes you more conscious of your health habits throughout the day. And since we’re pickier than your Aunt Susie at Christmas time, every Figur8 Waist Trainer is designed to be just as unnoticeable as it is effective and can be worn under clothes without anyone knowing. MSM: When exactly can I wear one? F8: We’ve tested this theory in practically every scenario. April is more of the athlete, and wears hers at the gym, cardio, weights, sauna and even hours out horseback riding. Olesia is the socialite and wears hers from office to night out – and even to sleep. Both have two common objectives; discretion and effectiveness. Our range of mild to higher intensity trainers make waist training a possibility any time, whether you want to be discreet or flaunt it. The more you wear it, the sooner you will see results, and nothing feels better than moving on to that next hook. Our Perfect Trainer is ideal for more prolonged use, or during more physical activity, working out, and throughout the day. The High Intensity Waist Trainer provides maximum posture support and waist cinching, this is a great option for days in the office, running errands, or a night out on the town.  MSM: How often do you recommend wearing one? F8: As often as you want, or as little as you want. Some women just want the immediate appearance of a smaller waist under their outfit, and others want to use one for the long-term results and wear theirs up to 8 hours a day. Either way, do what your body is comfortable with.  MSM: Ok, I’m sold! Where can I buy one? F8: First of all, welcome to the family! You can shop directly online at www.figure8shapewear.com and by end of summer 2018 you’ll be able to pick up trainers at some of your favorite retailers, so be sure to follow us on Instagram @Figur8s Links: 1) https://www.figure8shapewear.com/product-page/perfect-waist-trainer 2) https://www.figure8shapewear.com/product-page/high-intensity-waist-trainer

Six Superb Valentines Day Gifts With High IQ

By Nadja Atwal No, most girls don’t care for a tv promoted pj as a Valentines gift. And yes, a  teddy is cute, but should be only the accessory to the Valentines gift – not the main gift. And since most of us fashion lovers watch our figure, a box of chocolate is really not helpful. Guys are so smart and often also exceptionally creative at work – why then so many uninspired gifts? Send him the links to our gift tips. That should improve his cognitive ability to find the right thing for you. As for what to give your man on the day of love, there is a special gift tip in here that he ll never forget. And if you are single, just reward yourself – they always say we need to love ourselves first, so lets get spoiled! For her : If he does not get this piece for you, reward yourself. The  heart hair barrette  (in copper or silver) from Copper Street Studios with red Swarovski crystals is the perfect hair accessories for those who like to tame their mane in a non-vanilla way. It’s handmade and the heart shape of this gorgeous and very functional  piece softly whispers “Oh how romantic”. www.etsy.com 2.) For him and her : “Give” a wild animal. If your sweetheart is an animal lover, the symbolic species adoption from WWF is a romantic way to support global effort to protect wild animals and their habitats. It comes with an adoption certificate, photo of the animal and a matching 8 inch plush. Wanna bet this gift puts a smile on anyone with a heart for animals? https://gifts.worldwildlife.org/gift-center/ 3.)  For her (even though he may not be able to keep his hands off it as well) : The Bellini Self Tanner set is a true breakthrough product and the only self tanner I publicly endorse, since it really turns me into a beach goddess. Developed by one of the best health product and cosmetic inventors in Europe, this perfect self tanner comes in spray form and with a matching spray-on exfoliator! They work as a team and give the most natural tan within 15 minutes. Plus it is full of anti-aging ingredients and moisturizers to keep skin soft and smooth. Pssst: it also smells devine. The product just hit the stores in Europe and we are told the brand can barely keep up with the orders. And how lovely that they offer a Valentines Day Special! www.Bellini-Beauty.com 4.) For him:  If you feel your guy is less into “stuff” but more into experiences, give him something unforgettable. Guys love golf, so why not help him to amp up his game? Cloud Nine Livings motto is “Create a memory – give an experience,” so you may also consider (depending on his interests, your budget and location) a helicopter flight lesson, racing a Lamborghini or a wine tasting sail. www.cloud9living.com For her : Enough with those lingerie sets. Summer is coming and so is the next holiday trip to the beach. Oh, what to wear, what to wear to look cool by the pool ? What about a bikini that will catch all eyes when out and about and has the va-va-va-voom to seduce him in the bedroom …or any room? The Leather & Lace Collection by Monica Hansen Beachwear is true genius. And how thoughtful that the brand offers up to 75% on some of these sexy bestsellers especially for V- Day www.monicahansenbeachwear.com For her : There is lipstick and there is the Glamour Garden LE Collection from Katarina Van Derham. Not only did all of Katarina’s longtime experience as a top make up artist go into this, but the box itself is a piece of art. And with 4 versatile, gorgeous colors in one package (the colors can of course be mixed), she will always have the matching color for every outfit, mood and occasion. Truly genius. www.lasplashcosmetics.com

From Desk to Drinks: 2016 Holiday Edition

By: Dana Lyons, General Manager at My Home Fashion Boutique Dashing off for drinks after your 9-to-5? Surviving the holiday party circuit requires some wardrobe strategy, especially when it comes to post-work soirées and the race against time (thanks Miami traffic). Since going home to change isn’t always an option, I’ve put together a list of My Home Fashion Boutique’s favorite style hacks to take the stress out of desk-to-drinks dressing. The last thing you need slowing you down is your wardrobe! Wide leg Pant Silhouette When running from work to your next holiday party you want to feel fabulous without giving up comfort. Having the perfect pair of pants solves half the battle. Wide leg trousers in black or winter white not only look sophisticated for your staff meeting, but also transition beautifully when paired with a silk cami or sequined tank for your night out. Take a cue from B.O.N.D. and try the Siena Wide Leg Trouser, in black or winter white, on for size. Ditch the Office Wear, and Rock the Outerwear                     A fitted blazer is the classiest way to go topless this season. Yes, you read that right! If you’re feeling bold, follow in the fashionable footsteps of Hollywood’s finest like Rosie Hungtinton-Whitely and Rihanna and lose the office undergarments for a sexy, no shirt blazer look. Dare to go bare with a buttoned leather moto jacket by Gimo or fitted crop suede jacket by SEN. Add an ivory beaded necklace by David Aubrey or sandstone bracelets by Cindy Zale, and your outfit is complete. This edgy update to a classic power suit is the ideal way to show off your avant-garde taste effortlessly. Cap Sleeve Meets Color                     To keep your day-to- night transition minimal, go with a silk blouse. The refined elegance of the blouse is a no-brainer for the office, but how about a blouse with the holiday twist of a cap sleeve? The shimmering material and angelic hue make it worthy of a champagne toast. Try on the B.O.N.D. cap sleeve shirt with delicate neckline for a put together and party-approved look. To complement any outfit quick-change, swipe on a vivid red or rich mulberry lipstick, and you’ll be ready for any holiday party photo op! Never Underestimate the Power of Heels               Shoes are the quintessential hero to dress up any day-to- night ensemble. Slip on a pair of striking, textured heels or opt for a stiletto heeled boot. Scarlet, evergreen and metallic tones lend a perfect pop of color to any outfit. Don’t underestimate the power of a pointed flat to make a statement for the holidays as well. My Home Fashion’s Bara column heel by Rudsak or the On – Point flat by Jaggar will have you standing out amongst the crowd. Shop these desk-to-drink looks at My Home Fashion Boutique located in the Biscayne Commons Plaza at 14681 Biscayne Blvd, North Miami, FL 33181!

Nicole Williams from WAGS on E!

Written by Gisel Habibnejad Cover Photo and Photography by Josh Ryan Makeup Artist by Janelle Faretra Styling by Kat Lozhnikova For anyone who stays up to date with pop culture, it’s no secret Nicole Williams is taking the modeling industry by storm. Never shying away from a busy schedule, she also stars in the hit reality television series WAGS on E! The show follows the lives of Williams and her cast mates through which viewers experience a glimpse into the exclusive lives of wives and girlfriends of professional athletes. Williams has been dating Larry English, an NFL defensive end, for close to five years now. “I think our relationship is very relatable to a lot of people who watch.” Prior to WAGS, Williams had already made a name for herself as a professional model. “My mom used to put me in classes so I could get a better feel for being in front of the cameras and I LOVED it!” Her first big break was her Bonne Bell Cosmetics campaign in Canada. A model on a mission, Williams has struck numerous deals throughout her career—her latest being an ad campaign with PETA. In an effort to raise awareness for animal cruelty, she was honored to team up with PETA for a special cause. “It was amazing working with PETA, honestly a dream come true for me,” shares the vegan. “If I can use this little bit of fame for one thing, it’s to spread awareness all around the world.” The ad campaign hones in on the gruesome reality animals undergo in the leather making process. PETA encourages consumers to opt for vegan leather instead of real leather. Vegan fashion goods can be found at top brands such as Stella McCartney and Free People. The Canadian-born beauty has also been busy modeling for other campaign ads. Earlier this year, Williams posed for the luxury lingerie brand Agent Provocateur’s Aphrodisiaque perfume ad. Skincare has always been important to Williams, so naturally, partnering up with BodyBlendz was a match made in heaven. The premier natural body scrub brand created a Coffee Scrub inspired by Williams’ own beauty regimens. “I used some of my favorite scents that I use at home, it’s so good for your skin to exfoliate, it gets rid of dry dead skin and keeps your skin radiant and smooth.” Some of the vital ingredients used to make the scrub include coffee beans (great for minimizing the appearance of cellulite) and sea salt (leaves skin feeling soft). In addition, together with BodyBlendz, Williams will be launching a new tropical and beachy mist called Mandarin Mist. Poised to conquer the fashion world, Williams will be launching a swimwear line this summer called Nia Lynn. The collection will consist of three bikinis and three one-pieces, staying true to this summer’s hottest trends like mesh, strappy features, and neutral colors. You can keep up with Williams by watching WAGS Sunday nights at 10:00pm only on E! “You definitely don’t want to miss this season because there’s a few surprises in store for everyone!! It gets really exciting.” You can also follow her on social media (@justtnic), to get sneak peeks of her swimwear line.
