DELPOZO: Fantastical Fashion

By Katie Jackson Photography Courtesy of DELPOZO Spanish fashion house DELPOZO stepped onto the New York Fashion Week runway a mere two years ago, permanently captivating the hearts of many with truly awe-inspiring collections. DELPOZO, now a NYFW mainstay, has reveled in an enormous amount of success, largely due to new creative director Josep Font, appointed in 2012. Font has taken DELPOZO above and beyond the imaginable, using his architectural background to construct intricate masterpieces. Now, not only has DELPOZO proven to be a powerful fashion house, the sophisticated designs are paving the way for extreme innovative creativity.                   This season, Font was inspired by Josef Albers’ The Interaction of Color, the land art of Nils-Udo, and marine life, as captured in Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka’s 19th Century glass creations. Drawing on this inspiration, the Spring/Summer 2015 collection features a combination of bright and bold hues such as grass green, midnight blue, and lemon yellow with softer tones to create an ultra- feminine aesthetic. In addition, as a reference to Nils-Udo, Font exhibits his architectural expertise using shapes and colors from nature, featuring structured pleats, richly crafted lapels, and sleeves that resemble delicate petals. Font also used exceptional cottons, silks, and linens, while incorporating delicate fabrics such as tulle bobbinet, reserved solely for Haute Couture. As a nod to marine life, seashells are used as well as sequins and intricate beading. The brilliant DELPOZO Spring/Summer 2015 collection is a must-have for every fashionista. To peruse the collection, visit the Design District location at 35 NE 40th Street, Miami, FL 33137, or online at www.DELPOZO.com. American Red Cross Hosts “Girls’ Night Out” at Jimmy Choo

By Katie Jackson Last night, Miami women gathered at the Jimmy Choo in Merrick Park to shop for a cause. The American Red Cross hosted “Girls’ Night Out,” where attendees enjoyed complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while shopping for accessories to wear to the 33rd Annual Red Cross Ball this March. The ball is chaired by Marile and Jorge Luis Lopez and presented by FPL. A portion of the proceeds went to support the Red Cross’ local and national efforts. The American Red Cross, a nonprofit organization, provides shelters, feeds and offers emotional support to victims of disasters, and teaches important skills that save lives. A few attendees shared personal experiences with the Jimmy Choo shoppers, including Pamela Rauseo, who resuscitated her infant nephew on the side of a Miami highway by administering CPR she had learned from the Red Cross. “I was hoping for somebody else to save my nephew’s life, and that person didn’t come,” said Rauseo. “My nephew was already purple, limp, and unresponsive. By the grace of God I had remembered that I had learned how to perform CPR.” Rauseo’s story made headlines across the country, and she hopes that it will compel others to learn important life saving skills. “The lesson learned is that you need to get out there and get certified. You need to learn for your loved ones and for yourself,” said Rauseo.   For more information on the American Red Cross and the 33rd Annual Red Cross Ball, visit www.redcross.org/prepareflorida For more information on Jimmy Choo Shoes, please visit http://www.jimmychoo.com/

Miss Colombia Paulina Vega Crowned Miss Universe 2014

By Katie Jackson The stunning Miss Colombia Paulina Vega has been crowned Miss Universe 2014, with Miss USA Nia Sanchez as the runner-up. Vega blew away the panel of celebrity judges, including Kristin Cavallari, Emilio Estefan, DeSean Jackson, Lisa Vanderpump, William Levy, Manny Pacquiao, Nina Garcia, Giancarlo Stanton, Rob Dyrdek, and Louise Roe with her talents, charisma, intelligence, and obvious beauty. Taking place at the Florida International University Arena, the 63rd Annual Miss Universe Pageant began with each contestant greeting the judges and audience in lavish costumes representing each of their countries. Then, almost immediately after, the beauties were whittled down from 88 to just 15. The contestants strutted their fabulous figures in the bikini round, and were quickly narrowed down to the top 10. The remaining ladies stunned in evening gowns ranging from silver and sparkling to red and daring. Throughout the pageant, unforgettable live performances were put on by Prince Royce, Gavin DeGraw, and Nick Jonas who had audience members and viewers swooning when he walked off the stage to serenade girlfriend Olivia Culpo in the audience with his smash hit “Jealous.” Culpo, who was Miss Universe 2012, was Jonas’s muse behind the song. After the top 5 were announced, Miss Jamaica, Miss Ukraine, Miss Netherlands, Miss USA, and Miss Colombia moved on to the question and answer round. Though all the contestants gave wonderful answers, it was Vega that came out on top. During the nerve-racking Q&A, Vega completely wowed the judges, especially when answering what she thought Colombia had contributed to the world. “I believe that my country has been an example to be followed for the rest of the countries,” she said. “We are preserving people, and we continue fighting. Today, we are world leaders in many different parts.” After she was announced the winner, Vega was crowned by Miss Universe 2013 Grabriela Isler with the $300,000 topaz and sapphire studded headpiece. Vega is the first winner to wear the stunning new New York City-skyline inspired crown designed by DIC. Immediately after the pageant, Vega and Miss Universe owner Donald Trump answered questions during a press conference held at the Trump National Doral. Vega beamed as she told press that she will wear the crown with “pride and excitement.” When asked what his biggest piece of advice was for Vega, Trump answered, “she has to remain grounded.” For more on Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega, visit missuniverse.com

Celebrating DVF’s The Woman I Wanted to Be

By Katie Jackson Many wish they could peek into the minds of those who have found true happiness and success, hoping to come to understand the pathway in which they earned their desired goals. But to be offered a glimpse into the life of a woman who is not only brilliantly successful and heavily admired, but is also kind, genuine, and immensely passionate, is a true rarity. Diane von Furstenberg gave those who not only adore her designs, but those who adore and admire her, the chance to understand exactly how she became the woman she wanted to be. Even better, the legendary designer made sure to come and celebrate her tome during Art Basel right here in the Magic City. In her memoir, the woman responsible for creating the beloved wrap dress delves into detail about her journey to becoming one of the most respected forces in the fashion industry. Included in The Woman I Wanted to Be are also intimate details about von Furstenberg’s love life, children, how she overcame cancer, and her feelings about aging. “In a sense I feel more beautiful than I have ever felt because my life is full, my children and grandchildren are my pride, and so is the body of my work. I have traveled the world, seen so much beauty in nature, met so many people. I cannot pretend that I am younger than I am, and truly I feel that I have lived so fully that I should be twice my age.” Already a best seller, The Woman I Wanted to Be has garnered an extensive amount of attention. And despite her busy schedule—shooting her “E!” reality show “House of DVF” included—von Furstenberg headed to Miami during Art Basel to celebrate with those who fell in love with her story. With cameras in tow, the designer made a stop at Books & Books in Bal Harbour Shops on December 2nd for a discussion led by entertainment journalist Ana Remos. The very next night, von Furstenberg signed copies of her book in her Aventura Mall boutique. Packed to the brim, the designer’s pop up was filled with attendees sipping champagne and enjoying hors de ‘oeuvres while patiently waiting to have a moment with the legend. With The Woman I Wanted to Be, readers will walk away with truly remarkable wisdom from the woman who not only created an empire, but also created a platform that truly empowers women everywhere. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 10th Anniversary

By Katie Jackson / Photography by Imani Ogden The annual Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim is notorious for bringing Miami one of the hottest shows in fashion in the world, and the 10th anniversary of the smoldering event was certainly no different. Beginning on July 17th, The Raleigh Hotel was taken over by editors, bloggers, and fashionista’s from across the globe who came to witness the incredible lineup of designers that would debut their 2015 collections. The days that followed brought a plethora of astounding colors, prints, fabrics, props, accessories, and of course, spectacular hair and make-up that left the thousands of attendees in awe. Didn’t get a chance to catch the shows? Don’t fret. We’ll break down the hottest shows to hit the MBFW Swim 2015 run- ways, as well as the glamorous late night soirees and poolside parties that followed. Let’s look back on all the swimwear fabulousness, shall we? Thursday, July 17: Celebrating 10 Years of MBFW Swim What better way to begin the 10th anniversary of the hottest week in swimwear than by throwing a bash to honor the designers that have participated since the beginning? Designers such as L*Space, Mara Hoffman, Suboo, CM Cia Maritima, and Red Carter—whose aqua Cherokee Bandeau Bra top graced our July/August cover—were all honored at the event. Attendees sipped cocktails poolside while enjoying a showcase of the designers’ timeless pieces. Friday, July 18: Bright Prints, Sexy One Pieces, and Over-the-top-Glam The pre-show anticipation finally came to an end Friday as Poko Pano swimwear kicked-off the steamy series of runway shows—minus the runway. The Poko Pano models ditched the catwalk for the water as Poko Pano’s Paola Robba debuted her 2015 collection in The Raleigh’s iconic pool. With a combination of tailored neutrals, bright and bold patterns, leopard prints, and the occasional leather detailing, Poko Pano was surely a great start to this year’s Swim Week. Do- lores Cortes later wowed the crowd with sky-high hair and heels to accentuate the tribal glamour of the 2015 collection, featuring asymmetrical and floral prints with sexy silhouettes. Clover Canyon also debuted graphic prints and florals in the form of tailored and sporty neoprenes, complete with single-strap sandals. But it was Wildfox Swim and Beach Bunny featuring the Blonds that were the real showstoppers of the night. Wildfox brought back the 80’s in the chicest way possible, pairing the outrageously bright and bold swimwear with equally eccentric, 80’s-inspired accessories. Beach Bunny brought us cyber space stunners that hit the runway in galactic-themed bejeweled bodysuits, bright bustiers and sequin and spike embellished cover-ups. It was pure over-the-top glamour, and we were loving every single second. Saturday, July 19: Leather Bikinis, Crochet Cutouts, and Palm Frond Hair Ties Caitlin Kelly began day two of the shows by debuting easy breezy cover-ups that can be converted into hot swimwear. The phrase “sleek and chic” came to mind, as the collection featured mostly solid neutrals with elegant gold chain embellishments. Later, the L*Space by Monica Wise models graced a water runway inspired by the “girls who love the brand and who are always looking for the perfect water in their travels,” says Wise. “We took the runway and are transforming it into an amazing group of girls that look like sirens from the sea. They’ll be covered with gold scales, slick hair, wet skin, and barefoot. It’s a love affair with the water.” The collection had an eclectic array of bright and soft colors, with special attention paid to the back detailing. The intricately woven strings and crochet cutouts on the back of the bikini tops certainly made us fall in love with L*Space 2015. But it was the leather swimwear featured in Mikoh that really left us in shock and awe. Not one, not two, but numerous leather bikinis and long-sleeved leather one-pieces dominated Mikoh’s 2015 collection. Though it may not be the best for the beach, it certainly creates a statement that many a Miami fashionista would love to make. And, of course, Mara Hoffman later captivated guests with her signature vivid colors and prints. This year, leopard and parrot motifs were included, while palm frond hair ties completed the looks perfectly. To top off the night, The Daily Swim threw an after party at the Shore Club’s Red Room, where Hoffman made an appearance along with Poko Pano’s Paola Robba Sunday, July 20: Sexy Silhouettes, Bold Colors, and Warrior Princesses On day three, Caffe Swimwear brought a whole ‘lotta hot to the runway. The models stunned in a smattering of sexy suits in bright hues like yellow, orange, and pink—including our July/August cover model Jessica Bleier. The Luli Fama 2015 collection heated up the catwalk even more as the models strutted in designer Lourdes Hanimain’s famously flattering-to-the figure swimwear. The show began with a brief performance by dancers who looked like they had just stepped out of Cirque du Soleil, and was followed by models dressed in gorgeous and brightly colored bikinis, monokinis, and light and flowy cover-ups. Pooja’s 6 Shore Road closed the Sunday night shows with her Nepal-inspired collection. “Nepal has a little Indian influence, a spiritual influence. The woman is more of a strong woman, like a warrior. So you’re going to see that through the music, through the hair, the make- up,” says Pooja. Complete with fierce braids, nose-rings, and heels with tribal chains, the 6 Shore Road models took the runway in brightly printed high-wasted bikini bottoms and alluring multi-colored one-pieces.       Monday, July 21: Printed Speedos, Flirty Showstoppers, and Motorcycle Babes On the last day of MBFW Swim, IMG brought us a special show featuring Sauvage, Aguaclara Swim- wear, Mia Marcelle, Aquarella Swimwear and Toxic Sadie Swimwear. Sauvage showed off a mirrored metal bikini that truly took our breath away, while Mia Marcelle gave the ladies a little eye candy, debuting a few printed men’s speedos. Aquarella produced fun and flirty swimwear in multiple fun colors and cuts that could be worn for any occasion, and Toxic

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim Turns Up The Heat In Sexy Miami

By Katie Jackson/Photography by Imani Ogden On Monday, the Indah swimwear models walked the last runway at Cabana Grande at The Raleigh Hotel as the 10th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim came to a close.  Guests such as bloggers, editors, buyers, and fashionistas from across the globe were wowed by the MBFWS 2015 impressive lineup—including Beach Bunny featuring the Blonds’ over-the-top glamour, Mara Hoffman’s signature bright and bold prints, complete with palm frond hair ties, Minimale Animale’s racy-chic swimwear and edgy motorcycle helmets, and L*Space’s “Sirens of the Sea” gracing a water runway. It was simply fabulous. Thursday, as promised, the annual MBFWS kick-off party brought us an honorary showcase of designers that have participated over the years. We fell in love with the stylish palm prints of Suboo and Carmen Marc Valvo, and of course, MSM’s July/August cover designer Red Carter’s Art Deco-inspired black and white piece made us swoon. The shows began the next day, as Poko Pano’s Paola Robba debuted her 2015 collection in the Raleigh Pool—yes, in the actual pool. The rest of this year’s MBFWS certainly did not disappoint, as each show produced a resounding “ohh and awe,” from the guests as each model strutted past. (MSM’s July/August cover model Jessica Bleier included.) You can expect a full feature article on MBFWS 2015 in the September/October issue of MSM, including our interviews with designer Monica Wise of L*Space, Pooja of 6 Shore Road, as well as the directors of artistry from both Stila and Vincent Longo. 10th Anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

By Katie Jackson/Photo by Imani Ogden (Last years MBFWS 2014 Agua Bendita Collection.) July has notoriously been the hottest time in South Florida. No—not because of the scorching 90-degree weather—but because it is the time when bikini-clad models grace the runway in the hottest designs in swimwear for the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim.  This year, things are about to heat up even more as the MBFWS 10th Anniversary kicks-off at The Raleigh Hotel this Thursday. This time, we not only get to celebrate a week of spectacularly fashionable swimwear, but a decade of incredibly talented designers and the show that brought it all to life. On July 17, the annual MBFWS kick-off party will give a special honorary presentation to the designers that have taken part over the years (including MSM’s July/August cover designer Red Carter—who participated in the very first MBFWS.) The lineup for the rest of the week will surely not disappoint the 10,000 plus expected guests—with designers such as Mara Hoffman, Mikoh, L*Space, Aquarella, Luli Fama, Caitlin-Kelly, Rip Curl, Poko Pano, Beach Bunny featuring The Blonds, Caffé Swimwear, Suboo, and so many more. And, of course, the stylish late night after-parties and glamorous poolside celebrations will be in full swing. MBFWS will come to a close on July 21, leaving us waiting for the hottest runway show to return next year.  Until then, MSM will be there to give you the exclusive on every last glamorous detail.

Miami Fashion Week 2014 Highlights

This weekend we remember those who have fallen, celebrating in the streets of South Beach by way of urban festivals and questionable behavior. But last weekend, the craziness was equally present. Instead of booty shorts and semi-exhibitionists riding around on vespas, there were leggy models and drapey maxi dresses prancing down the long, encircling runway at the Miami Beach Convention Center during Miami Fashion Week. The international fashion affair showed off up-and-comers like Lisu Vega, Stella Jean, and the Peruvian likes of Escudo as some of the events winners. Others, sadly missed the mark. Yet despite the segregation of those designers who truly know how to deliver, all was fair in love and fashion. Here were our favorite looks of Miami Fashion Week.
