Miami’s Art Fans Find a New Muse in the AIM Gallery Vail

On the sun-soaked beaches of South Florida, Miami stands as a titan of contemporary art. Since Art Basel’s inaugural U.S. fair in Miami Beach in 2002, the city has transformed into a global art stronghold. Miami Art Week, which attracts more than 1,200 international galleries to its 20 art fairs, is just five months away. Where did the time go? As we anticipate the vibrant festivities, there’s another artistic gem to explore, about 2,200 miles away: The AIM Gallery in Vail, Colorado. A world-renowned destination for its skiing, diverse shops and restaurants, luxurious accommodations, friendly neighborhoods, and breathtaking mountain views. A Visionary Journey What does a doctor who changed countless lives do when his three children all have achieved their dreams and notable success? He creates artwork with the words that became the seeds of their legacy in order to impact even more lives, this time through words. The former renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mike Mycoskie has become a visionary artist, painting day and night to share the impact of affirmations, inspiration, and motivation with others. His wife Pam, a celebrated entrepreneur and cookbook author admits: “After 54 years of marriage, I believe I know Mike better than anyone, but I must admit I never saw this coming!”The gallery is an extraordinary space and experience where the power of words transforms into stunning visual art. The words inspire your mind, stir your soul, and uplift your spirit. The Power of Words Words possess the transformative power to shape our thoughts, emotions, and ultimately, our realities. This profound concept is brought to life through visual art. The gallery’s mission is to transform words into powerful visual expressions that affirm, inspire, and motivate. What we think manifests into our actions and our world, making the right words incredibly important. All artwork is a vibrant statement painted on quality canvas, some enhanced with diamond dust and decoupage. Visitors can commission their own unique pieces, making the experience personal and deeply meaningful. “In a world often overwhelmed by negativity, my artwork aims to be a beacon of hope and inspiration,” said Mike Mycoskie. “The right words at the right time can truly change lives, and this is a space where those words can be felt and experienced.” The Mycoskie Legacy of Inspiration The Mycoskie family’s influence extends far beyond the gallery walls. Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes; Paige Mycoskie, creator of Aviator Nation; and Tyler Mycoskie, founder of Dollar Driver Club, each carry forward the family’s legacy of positive impact. Words have been the foundation of the family’s success and philanthropic philosophy in business. The gallery highlights the profound impact of positive words, a concept that psychologists affirm can shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Miami’s Artistic Spirit Echoed in the Mountains Each year, many Miami residents escape to the snowy slopes of Vail and Aspen, blending their love for the arts with a passion for nature and outdoor adventures. The AIM Gallery Vail is a vibrant community hub, located in the Solaris Building, in the space formerly occupied by the Zuger Gallery. Hosting a variety of events, from intimate workshops to cultural celebrations, the gallery fosters creativity and connection. This dynamic approach ensures that every visit offers something new and enriching, making the gallery a lively addition to the local cultural scene.  Bridging Cultural Landscapes The opening of the AIM Gallery Vail on July 1 marked a significant addition to Vail’s cultural narrative and offers Miami’s art enthusiasts a compelling reason to explore beyond the city’s borders. Dr. Mike Mycoskie’s vision, supported by his family, brings together words and visual art in a way that inspires and uplifts. Recognizing the significant Latin community in Vail, the second largest in the area, the gallery also features artworks in Spanish. This inclusive approach ensures that the gallery’s inspiring messages are accessible to all, reflecting the diverse fabric of the community. As you gear up for Art Basel in December, the opening provides a timely reminder of the universal power of art. This summer, let the spirit and power of words ignite your imagination and inspire your soul. Plan Your Visit Open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM, with extended hours during special events and local festivals, Dr. Mike Mycoskie and his team invite everyone to explore the transformative power of words through art. Whether you’re a Miami resident planning a mountain getaway or a local in Vail, the gallery promises a memorable and uplifting experience. Mandarin Oriental Miami Staycation

By Karen Huggins @glamandbrains   When it comes to where to stay in Miami, we are never out of options; whether it is a magnificent suite, an ocean view, a charming boutique hotel or an affordable romantic room. After weeks traveling for work, we decided to enjoy a staycation in Miami. We live in paradise and there are amazing hotel options to disconnect for the weekend. Ideally situated in Brickell Key, the luxurious Mandarin Oriental Hotel is an iconic beauty. The ocean and skyscraper-filled downtown adds to the scenic location of this legendary hotel.   A dream come true by choosing a stay in the magnificent suites at Mandarin Oriental Miami. Offering a selection of suites with all the extravagant hotel services in privacy and intimacy, this is what ideal staycations are made of. A dinner at La Mar by Gaston Acurio was the best way to start the weekend. The Peruvian cuisine and the ocean view dining alfresco is the best plan in Brickell area. After a great dinner and pisco sours at La Mar, we did a stop at the bar. Ending the night indulging in an exquisite glass of something bubbly was a great idea. The bartender did a couple of amazing drinks for us, the ultimate luxurious cosmopolitan experience. Waking up in the comfort of the king bed at the Junior suite is the perfect way to start the day. Heading to La Mar for a big brunch was the icing on the cake. The quality of the ingredients and the menu is impressive. Superb brunch! Time to relax under the palm trees sipping a cocktail and enjoying Brickell views! Love the Mandarin Oriental sand area, best place to enjoy a “Dolce far niente” moment. The cherry at the top, the Spa treatments. The Spa is an oriental oasis where you can get the best views to the ocean while you enjoy a magnificent massage at one of the spa suites.

A 7 Million Dollar Bag To Save The Oceans

The Italian brand Boarini Milanesi is launching a 6 million euro bag (approximately 7 million US Dollars), the most expensive ever in the world. It has been created to raise awareness on the need to protect our seas, which are becoming even more threatened than usual by non-biodegradable plastics due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 800 thousand euros (approximately 950 thousand US Dollars) of the proceeds will be donated to cleaning the seas. The brand has decided to create this bag for a very precise reason, linked to the personal story of one of the brand’s two founders and designers, Matteo Rodolfo Milanesi. Matteo Rodolfo, who lost his father when he was just a teenager, has lots of memories of him linked to the sea. “We used to spend every summer at sea, between Greece and Turkey, and I was happiest when we would go on boat trips between the islands” says Matteo Rodolfo. “Even though mass tourism was still a long way off, we would often see plastic bags floating on the water or patches of tar leaked by oil tankers”. “Recently, I have seen even more plastic in the sea than when I was a child, due to the pandemic and all the gloves and face masks that are being carelessly thrown away. This reminded me of my father, who used to dive into the water to collect the plastic bags and bottles floating in the sea and help me wipe the patches of tar that I found on the beach when I was building sand castles off my hands”. This is why, together with Carolina Boarini, co-founder and designer of the brand, he decided to do something to help raise people’s awareness of the need to respect the environment, dedicating this particular bag to his father, who cared so much about the crystal clear waters of the seas and oceans. The project also includes a practical initiative for cleaning the seas: Boarini Milanesi undertakes to donate 800 thousand euros of the proceeds (approximately 950 thousand US Dollars) to cleaning and operations in defense of the marine environment. There are only three of these bags in the world. It is a Parva Mea model, made of semi-shiny alligator, adorned with a diamond pavé accessory and 10 white gold butterflies with sapphires, diamonds and Paraiba tourmalines, for a total of over 130 carats, over 1000 hours of work and a price of 6 million euros (approximately 7 million US Dollars). The choice of the stones is linked to seawater: Carolina Boarini tells us “Blue sapphires represent the depths of the oceans, Paraiba tourmaline reminds us of the uncontaminated Caribbean seas and diamonds refer to the transparency of water when it falls in the form of rain”.   —-

Azimut Yachts With Gabriele Muccino To Tell The Story Of The New Magellano 25 Metri

An outstanding film director for a totally unconventional yacht: Gabriele Muccino will direct a short film to celebrate the launch of the new model in the Magellano Collection, with interiors by architect and designer Vincenzo De Cotiis. On the one hand a brand that symbolizes international excellence in yachting, on the other a multiple award-winning film director whose fame has spread as far afield as Hollywood: Azimut Yachts chooses Gabriele Muccino to tell the story of the yard’s new Magellano 25 Metri yacht, which will make its world debut next September 2020. To speak about such an out of the ordinary yacht, that presents exterior lines by the well known designer Ken Freivokh, the brand has identified a new language, the short movie, which is an unprecedented choice for the yachting industry. The shipyard, for which ‘Made in Italy’ style and elegance are central to its business culture, has commissioned Gabriele Muccino to make a short film for the launch of its latest original project, recognizing a ‘like spirit’ in this director renowned the world over for his talent (which has won him a remarkable four David di Donatello awards and is renown for his Hollywood movies starring Will Smith). The short will be shown for the first time next September in the grounds of the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence in Provence, at a gala evening organized by Azimut Yachts for the exclusive premiere of Magellano 25 Metri. With great poetry, the short film will describe the infinite nuances that unite art and emotion, engaging in an almost magical way with the Magellano, which in the narrative becomes a perfect synthesis of rigor and inspiration, discipline and creativity, reason and sentiment.

A Look Back At Miami Fashion Week

By Karen Huggins Miami has become the capital of Latin America and  Miami Fashion Week has shown us why. Five days full of fashion, Latin American designers and colorful collections. The first day we started with the press conference at the Kimpton EPIC Miami and a Kick Off party at Saks Fifth Avenue Brickell where fashionistas, fashion lovers, celebrities and influencers, gathered to preview beautiful pieces of different designers. Guests enjoyed music, cocktails and bites from Casa Tua. The second day, the show begins! We started early in the morning with the MIAFW summit “Sustainability & Technology”. This is one of my favorite topics in fashion, all the trends and new projects of different brands to make the fashion industry a sustainable industry. In the afternoon, Rene Ruiz opened the fashion week shows at Ice Palace Film Studios with the launch of his new brand: Rene by RR, a younger line that goes from day to evening. The following show, Agatha Ruiz de La Prada; a funny, colorful and playful collection. First row with Spanish celebrities such as Amaia Salamanca, Nieves Alvarez, and Antonio Banderas…. Third day of Miami Fashion Week, beautiful shows from Daniella Batlle, Herminas Reea and Vero Diaz. I loved the top designer of Haute Couture dresses, Herminas Reea collection; the dresses with sumptuous fabric choices and accessories for their hair were gorgeous.  After the runways, The MIAFW Benefit Gala was celebrated at Faena Forum in South Beach. Antonio Banderas hosted the event and the Colombian singer Juanes had the crowd dancing. On Saturday, the Influencers brunch took place at Seaspice Restaurant. A morning full of Mimosas and fashion. At 3:00 PM the shows started with Dash, then Miami Fashion Institute, Glory ANG and Fernando Alberto. Miami Fashion Week closed the last day with Jenny Polanco, Arcadio Diaz, Jacqueline Then and Gianinna Azar runway. Gianinna’s collection was amazing with chic looks for day and night. After the shows, the closing party began at Ice Palace Film Studios. A beautiful week that highlighted the importance Miami is gaining every year in Fashion.

Keeping Up with Alonzo Mourning

By Zachary Devita Photography by Claudio Beier Alonzo Mourning will always be remembered as the NBA player who put himself on the map for his passion and hard work on the hardwood. During his career, he was a seven-time NBA All-Star, a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and won an NBA Championship in 2006 with the Miami Heat. When he retired in 2009 at the age of 38, his number, 33, became the only retired number in Heat history. One of the most influential figures during his time in the NBA is former Heat coach and current Team President Pat Riley. “I’m a little biased, but it has to be Pat Riley. While he’s known for his strategic coaching tactics, to his players he was a motivator but not only that, he got the best out of his players. And I think that’s a key to being a great coach, not just drawing up a great play. I think it’s about you getting your players to believe in the plan you’ve set out,” shared Alonzo. Retirement hasn’t stopped Alonzo from being involved with the NBA and the Miami Heat. “I’m the Vice President of Player Programs and Development for the Miami Heat, which consumes a lot of my time.” Beyond being involved with the Miami Heat, Alonzo has been working tirelessly with the Mourning Family Foundation, which he established in 1997. The mission of the charity is to help the development of children and families living in at-risk situations and providing support and services that will enhance their lives. “There’s a hole that needs to be filled as it pertains to all the obstacles that young people are trying to overcome. We just have to accept responsibility and understand that what it really comes down to is helping young people accomplish their goals.” Alonzo has also partnered with the Warren Henry Auto Group to benefit his non-profit organizations. Some of these special events included sponsoring a donation drive to assist in collecting toys, gifts, and donations that were gifted to students of the Toys for Tots program, in which Warren Henry Auto Group has participated in for several years. They also assisted in the Back to School Drive, which involved being a location point that collected school supplies for children in need. Although retirement keeps him busy, Alonzo still misses some nuances and parts of the game. “I miss the comradery more than anything. The playoffs were something that I used to look forward to and I loved to compete at that level. But the long and short of it, I miss the competitiveness and being around my teammates.” For now, Alonzo continues to build his strong relationship with the community around him and push the young players on the Miami Heat for a bright future for not only themselves, but for the team as well.
