Fashion Project Hosts Successful Four-Day Film Festival at Bal Harbour Shops

By Gisel Habibnejad Photography by World Red Eye Learning about the fashion industry firsthand often involves working hands-on, side-by-side veterans. However, sometimes it’s fun to sit back and watch classic movies as they take you on a virtual tour of fashion throughout the decades. Guests enjoyed this marvelous experience at Fashion Project’s four-day fashion film festival, Wearing Time: Returns, Recalls, Renewals. With films curated by Marketa Uhlirova of Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, who is co-founder of Fashion in Film, and Tim Gunning of the University of Chicago’s Department of Film and Media Studies, the collection features pop culture hits, underground films, and rare footage at the hands of the guests. “In film, not only can dress become a vehicle with which to travel through time, is can also measure time, set its rhythm. It allows us to wear time, even as time wears us out,” shared Marketa Uhlirova and Tom Gunning. For more information on Fashion Project, please visit www.fashionprojectbhs.com

Day of Indulgence: Celebrating Bal Harbour Shops’ 50th Anniversary

By Gisel Habibnejad Photography by World Red Eye Bal Harbour became a fashion staple in Miami when it first opened in 1965. Ever since, Miamians of the last half century have flocked to buy the latest fashion trends and classic pieces—many of which have remained in our wardrobe all these years. Bal Harbour Shops houses 100 designer boutiques and two of the most luxurious department stores: Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. The open-air shopping space was officially recognized by the world in 2012 when it topped “the list as the world’s most productive shopping center, based on sales per square foot, according to data compiled by the International Council of Shopping Centers.” Under the care of the Whitman Family, three generations have remained at the forefront of Miami’s premier and luxury retail space.  In efforts to celebrate its big 50, Bal Harbour Shops gifted Miami’s elite with a Day of Indulgence. Guests enjoyed lunch and a day filled with personalized pampering, such as makeup sessions with GLAMSQUAD; a brow treatment, false lash application or a mini oxygen blast with GEE Beauty; and acupuncture ear bead treatments with Dr. Ronel Corbin. On the fashion spectrum, a garment fitting with Phat Buddha’s designer Alissa Benishai; a handmade hat from Eugenia Kim; and Miu Miu sunglasses fitted by Designer Eyes. Lastly, guests received personalized photos courtesy of Photo&Go, an exclusive bracelet by Chanel Bal Harbour Shops, and a personalized gift bag. Miami Blogger Shares Fall Beauty Favorites

By Gisel Habibnejad New York Fashion Week is in full swing and we couldn’t help but notice all the fabulous fall beauty trends rocked by the attendees of the elite shows. We caught up with Miami fashion and beauty blogger Maria Tettamanti (The Wordy Girl) who reveals her favorite beauty products and trends she can’t wait to sport this season. The mother of two was raised in Cape May, New Jersey, but moved to Miami when she was younger and later earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. Her quirky blog captures the essence of her bubbly personality while she expresses her experience and advice on all things fashion, beauty, travel, and personal development. MSM couldn’t wait to hear all about her favorite fall beauty trends this season: MSM: What’s your top fall beauty look? The Wordy Girl: I’ll never get sick and tired of a bold, red lip with winged eye liner. MSM: What new beauty trend can’t you wait to try this fall? TWG: I miss dark nail polish hues such as Essie’s “Vamp.” It feels strange wearing gloomy opaque colors during the summer so I always look forward to fall to bring on the dark polishes! MSM: Who is your ultimate beauty icon? TWG: I fell in love with model Helena Christensen ever since her starring role in Chris Issak’s Wicked Game video. She’s perfection. MSM: Go-to beauty secret? TWG: I’ve tried them all and Chanel’s Imitable Intense mascara works wonders. MSM: One beauty product you can’t leave the house without? TWG: Beauty for Real’s lip glosses. Not only is the lip gloss legit — its case beholds a mirror and light, too. Brilliant. MSM: Most exciting moment so far in your career as a blogger? TWG: Winning Racked’s “Best Miami Fashion Blog” honors and collaborating with cool brands that I love such as Dolce & Gabbana beauty has been amazing! MSM: Most enjoyed spots in Miami? TWG: You can always find me in one of these haunts: The Standard, Soho Beach House or Bal Harbour Shops. For more on Maria Tettamanti and her blog, please visit www.thewordygirl.com

Celebrating DVF’s The Woman I Wanted to Be

By Katie Jackson Many wish they could peek into the minds of those who have found true happiness and success, hoping to come to understand the pathway in which they earned their desired goals. But to be offered a glimpse into the life of a woman who is not only brilliantly successful and heavily admired, but is also kind, genuine, and immensely passionate, is a true rarity. Diane von Furstenberg gave those who not only adore her designs, but those who adore and admire her, the chance to understand exactly how she became the woman she wanted to be. Even better, the legendary designer made sure to come and celebrate her tome during Art Basel right here in the Magic City. In her memoir, the woman responsible for creating the beloved wrap dress delves into detail about her journey to becoming one of the most respected forces in the fashion industry. Included in The Woman I Wanted to Be are also intimate details about von Furstenberg’s love life, children, how she overcame cancer, and her feelings about aging. “In a sense I feel more beautiful than I have ever felt because my life is full, my children and grandchildren are my pride, and so is the body of my work. I have traveled the world, seen so much beauty in nature, met so many people. I cannot pretend that I am younger than I am, and truly I feel that I have lived so fully that I should be twice my age.” Already a best seller, The Woman I Wanted to Be has garnered an extensive amount of attention. And despite her busy schedule—shooting her “E!” reality show “House of DVF” included—von Furstenberg headed to Miami during Art Basel to celebrate with those who fell in love with her story. With cameras in tow, the designer made a stop at Books & Books in Bal Harbour Shops on December 2nd for a discussion led by entertainment journalist Ana Remos. The very next night, von Furstenberg signed copies of her book in her Aventura Mall boutique. Packed to the brim, the designer’s pop up was filled with attendees sipping champagne and enjoying hors de ‘oeuvres while patiently waiting to have a moment with the legend. With The Woman I Wanted to Be, readers will walk away with truly remarkable wisdom from the woman who not only created an empire, but also created a platform that truly empowers women everywhere.
