My Miami: Natalie Gal

November-December Issue 2015 Photographed by Catherine Asanov Natalie Gal is an American actress and model. She was born in 1989 to the family of an opera singer and a poet. Not surprisingly, she started studying ballet, gymnastics, arts, along with playing piano, singing, and performing in a theatre at the age of six. She is often compared to a young Angelina Jolie, considered to be a very promising young actress by media and magazines. She studied acting at NYU and speaks four languages fluently. Not only is Natalie represented by top model agencies around the world, but is also actively involved in various charities that are near to her heart, such as Artists for Peace and Justice and has done several campaigns for PETA. In September 2010, she was chosen to be the chairman of People Power Progress (PPP). She lives between NYC and LA, produces her TV show Fashion Destinations (airing on FashionTV), hosts a show on NEWTV, produces projects in Los Angeles and frequently travels to several cities around the world for work. She has starred in different movie productions and modeled for different brands such as Chanel, Cavalli, Alexander Wang, Prada, CoverGirl, Guess, Diesel, Alexander McQueen, and Revlon. She’s been on the covers of Grazia, Mademoiselle, Madam Figaro, and Modern Luxury to name a few. Currently she made a switch from modeling to acting, while still being an ambassador for many brands. She produces and stars in features with actors such as Samuel Jackson, Lindsay Lohan, Amber Heard and Kelan Lutz. Natalie recently hit the big screen in Jobs and Syrup. She is currently in the process of filming Enter The Fist with Danny Trejo. Since she is a self-proclaimed Miami lover, we couldn’t wait to hear the details… When in Miami you can catch me… Usually shopping! I enjoy all the Miami stores, little boutiques in all corners of the city, vintage shops in Wynwood Art District, or outside of SoBe. Of course, you also have to hit the big fancy ones, like Bal Harbour. After the shopping, I’m usually poolside at the Delano Hotel. I cannot tell you how many celebrities I spot during my visits there – so if you care for high-end people watching, then this is your place to stay. The biggest misconception about Miami is… That South Beach is the only place to be. I love Wynwood, Little Havana, Coral Gables, the Design District, and Coconut Grove. I am a big location junkie for my photo shoots and I typically ask a photographer or art director if we can shoot somewhere interesting, old, weird, or local. So I personally check out those locations on the mission to find interesting places to shoot, and Miami has so many! The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was… Juvia and Zuma all the way! I fell in love with Zuma when I first visited in London. It’s a hot spot for very attractive people (in case you want to meet a few wink-wink!). If you haven’t already, I dare you to order a few cocktails there, they are outstanding. Aside from the weather, the best reason to return to Miami is… There’s always something happening, music, art, fashion, and with new people. Of course, for me it’s Art Basel and Miami Fashion Week. Soho House is swarmed with people and hot outfits during MFW. I usually stay at SLS for MFW and get the most fantastic experience! For Art Basel, people come from all over the world to buy and celebrate art – its the best time to meet someone fun and interesting and get inspired by their talents. The first time I became really curious about Miami was… It was during my time as an up-and-coming, fresh-out-of-old-Europe model. I was instantly in love! I remember I went to the local coffee shop and everyone spoke Spanish there, which made the city appeal even worldlier to me. Then I was bedazzled by the Art Deco style, the atmosphere, the people, and then of course the hot nightlife. Miami felt instantly like the total package. Dsquared2 Opens in Bal Harbour

By Katie Jackson Popular Canadian brand Dsquared2 has finally opened their first boutique in Miami last week. Founded by Ontario-born twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten, Dsqaured2 provides a unique alternative to luxury. Combining their Canadian roots with superior Italian materials and craftsmanship, the brand is quickly expanding throughout the United States. After successfully opening flagship stores in New York and Los Angeles, Dsquared2 has made Miami their latest venture. Both Dean and Dan Caten, owners and creative directors of Dsqaured2, collaborated with Milan-based architectural firm Storage Associati to create an innovative design for the Miami boutique. Located in the prestigious shopping center of Bal Harbour, the store features over 2,000 square feet on the first floor alone, and contains stunning architectural detail. To pay tribute to their Canadian heritage, forests and nature are the underlying themes of the store’s interior. The dressing rooms are back dropped by illuminated imagery of Canadian forests, while ochre velvet armchairs are placed throughout the store. Outside, the boutique’s windows are framed with inserts of lark wood, creating a refined visual.                       The brothers are thrilled to bring Dsqaured2 to Miami. “We adore Miami, we visit there often to holiday and are inspired by the city and its people. That’s why opening our Dsquared2 store in Bal Harbour is such an important moment for us and our brand. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary. To be able to do so with our flagship in such an important luxury destination has been a long-held dream of ours”, said Dan and Dean Caten. The Bal Harbour location will carry both men’s and women’s ready to wear collections, in addition to fragrances, eyewear, and accessories. The boutique also offers an entire section dedicated to the beloved Italian-crafted shoes and handbags. Visit the Dsquared2 Boutique at 9700 Collins Ave,

Lilly Ghalichi: Lawyer, Lashes, & Luxury

By Gisel Habibnejad   To outsiders, she may just look like the ideal “Persian Barbie.” But, to those who know her and what she stands for, Lilly Ghalichi is much more than meets the eye. Already established as a highly sought after TV personality, starring in Bravo’s Shahs of Sunset, she has been busy becoming successful in the industries of fashion and beauty. Lilly made her television debut on the reality TV show, Shahs of Sunset. The show follows the lives, romances, careers, and family events of a group of Iranian friends living in Los Angeles – which sometimes ends up with drama. While Lilly has decided to no longer be part of the show, she is still grateful for the experience. “I found myself channeling all my energy to things that weren’t benefiting my life, and engaging in behavior I wasn’t proud of, so I decided to make a change. I don’t regret doing the show, it was an incredible experience, but it wasn’t for me.” However, when asked if she would ever return to reality TV, she provided a major cliff hanger, “I would never say never.”                                 Meanwhile, Lilly has blossomed in the world of business. She has her hands dipped in fashion and beauty – every girl’s dream! She started off with designing bikinis for her Femme Noir Swimgerie and soon after joined forces with Jennifer Stano, a swimwear designer, to create Have Faith Swimgerie. The designs are a hybrid of bikini and lingerie resulting in flattering pieces to make any woman feel confident when adorned in these fabulous suits. From the 2015 collection, fashionistas can expect “sexy, sassy, chic” styles. “We will be releasing an all new ‘Swimgerie’ collection where we push the limits with swimwear, creating really provocative, edgy, high fashion styles. The Have-Faith collection will have a lot of beautiful hardwear incorporated into the suits, and we are releasing the largest collection of cover-ups that we have ever had,” says the 31-year old. Of all her businesses, Lilly describes WantMyLook as the hardest to build from scratch. The clothing label is inspired by celebrity looks for less. “Every day we need to design and produce styles – every, single day.” Fashion is always changing and evolving, and she strives to make sure her styles are up-to-date. She came up with the idea through her social media outlets. As her following grew, more and more questions came pouring in asking where she bought her clothes. “I wanted to promote that everyone can look fashionable, you don’t need to spend a lot to look great.” And with that, Lilly shares her favorite spring looks consisting of highwaisted pants and crop tops with a sophisticated and chic edge. Her fashion influences don’t stop there, she also designed a jewelry collection with Avitan, called LG, which consists of beautiful diamond rings ranging in styles from everyday to special occasions. The collection proves to be timeless and is sure to make any woman feel powerful and à la mode. It oozes simplicity with elegance, class with uniqueness. In the beauty hemisphere, Lilly wanted to lend her famously luscious lashes to those who craved to give their eyes that extra oomph. Lilly Lashes provides various styles of faux lashes made with human hair to naturally blend in. Whether you want to go sexy and sleek with “LA,” or simple and demure with “Saint-Tropez” – this brand has every look you’re in the mood for. As for Lilly’s favorite style? She exclusively shared her favorite is “Venice,” and rightfully so the style has grown in popularity. Lilly has also been making waves with her Lilly Hair extensions by Bellami, which uses human hair for that natural and wholesome look varying in different styles and colors, too. Growing up in a Persian family, most raise their children to become doctors, lawyers, or dentists. For Lilly, she made her family proud when she completed her law degree. But, still she felt she needed more. When she decided to transition from law to the fashion business, it was no easy task. It took some time until her family fully accepted her career change. “It was very difficult. In the Persian community you aren’t respected if you don’t have one of those careers. In fact, you won’t be a suitable wife/husband, and you won’t make your parents proud if you aren’t one of those things. I decided it was my life to live, and I would do what made me happy and proud.” Lilly’s unconventional career choice has helped pave a path for those who come after her, especially Persians who wish to follow unconventional dreams. Today, Lilly’s parents are extremely proud of her success and the woman she has become. Even for someone who has it all, it doesn’t guarantee a free-pass from Iranian discrimination. Still, she doesn’t let that get in the way. She advises, “I have always let my success speak for me. Ignore the discrimination, don’t fight back, instead work harder to prove them wrong.” Although Lilly makes it look effortless, don’t be fooled! Breaking into the business world isn’t. Aside from familial issues, parting from her profession as an attorney to pursue a career in the field of glamour still had its complications. “Practicing is a great career, but for me, it felt like ‘work.’ I wasn’t excited about waking up and going to the office, I wasn’t passionate about what I did. Today, I work a thousand times harder, longer hours, and more strenuously, but I love what I do, so I don’t really work at all,” says the avid fashion and beauty lover. She knew she could always fall back on her law degree, but fortunately she doesn’t have to! She encourages women who are hesitant to follow their dreams to trust their intuition, and assures after the first few stages everything will fall into place. Lilly also expressed her love for Miami,

Miami Real Estyle – Patricia Delinois, Miami’s Luxury Real Estate Messiah

With a long-standing list of accomplishments and her sultry, chocolate locks, real estate tycoon, Patricia Delinois, President & CEO of Century 21 Premier Elite Reality, makes sure to get what she wants – and visibly deserves. This Luxury Real Estate Messiah and NBCUniversal Style Network star, staked her claim to fame long before Andy Cohen and pernicious catfights. For the award winning broker, seamlessly globalizing the 305’s real-estate market, while helming 175 agents deemed a lucrative cakewalk to the philanthropic enthusiast. Although a fluent speaker in three languages – French, Spanish, and English – the property powerhouse fancies one language in particular – selling; she fills us in on her landholdings hypnosis that has foreign affairs and local buyers alike, buzzing. MSM: Did the credit crisis of 2008 have a significant impact on your business and ability to sell homes? In 2008 we had over 46,000 properties available for sale on the market. Clients were asking for rentals, rentals, rentals!! Prices kept dropping and real estate offices were closing. Banks were not lending, mortgage brokers were all closing their companies. It was a very sad, difficult time and a tough process to get anything sold! MSM: What makes Century 21 Premier Elite Realty successful? At the end of 2011 we noticed that sales were up 4 percent from 2005 which was the boom year. A shift was beginning. This shift we were experiencing was due to the foreign buyer. Miami was suddenly on everyone’s radar. The Wall Street Journal named us the “new global city” 62 percent of the buyers now buying in Miami are foreign buyers and 90 percent of those buyers are buying cash. What makes our company different is we are an international company. We focus on foreign clients from all over the world. 48 percent of the business done by Century 21 is outside of the US. We are the most recognized real estate brand in the world. We also are the only real estate company to have an inter-office MLS, providing access for all of our agents and clients to listings from all of our offices around the world through our global MLS website Century21global.com. MSM: Describe your average client profile in the Miami market. Are they in the market to invest or to live in the property? The average Miami buyer is either from one of the large northern cities like New York, Chicago, Boston and Washington DC or they come from other countries in Europe, Asia and South America. We currently have a lot of traffic from Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, France, Columbia and a considerable number of buyers from Canada, Mexico, Russia and China. They want to invest in properties in Miami for security, safety, political, and financial reasons. Most foreign buyers feel more comfortable investing money in Miami than in their own country. They also see the incredible potential in appreciation as this city is transforming at an extremely rapid pace. Many buyers come to invest in America, but others purchase their properties as full or part time homes. MSM: How is the Miami luxury real estate market rebounding since the 2008 housing crash and where do you project pricing trends to move over the next 2 years? Wealthy buyers love the international feel that Miami provides along with sunny weather, gorgeous beaches, thriving nightlife, glamour, entertainment and global business opportunities. They find our per sq. ft. prices much lower than in their own cities and want to own a second or even third residence in Miami. The demand for luxury properties has been fueling the construction and price growth. Miami is a city that is being compared to cities like New York, LA or Paris but we really are still a very new young city with tremendous growth potential. We are quickly becoming a world class city, attracting global attention and boosting real estate price appreciation. We are looking forward to a very strong healthy real estate market in the next years to come. MSM: Are you showing more condos or houses? Both have a strong demand right now depending on the clients lifestyle. MSM: What do you see as the hottest growing part of Miami right now? We have had our third consecutive record sales year and two years of double digit price appreciation. Miami real estate is booming from affordable housing to luxury properties and this is just the beginning. Prices are still around our 2004 pre boom prices and with the combination of very low interest rates we are offering a perfect buying opportunity. Miami is not large. We have the Everglades on one side and the Atlantic on the other side combine that with the increasing population and strong buying demand is making most of Miami real estate attractive everywhere! Currently we are still seeing tremendous growth downtown, in the Brickell area, and all along the Biscayne corridor. The Wynwood area, Doral area and the Design District. In addition there is tremendous growth in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and all over Miami Beach. Miami has that international appeal keeping our residential and commercial real estate market hot for years to come!   1643 Brickell Ave #3102 The hottest buy on Brickell. Etro Comes to Bal Habour

Italian designers are no strangers to the upscale universe of Bal Harbour; so it was no surprise that the Italian designer, Etro, known for his exceptional paisley prints and deluxe fabrics, settled in nicely to its new home officially Wednesday, November 13th, on the second floor of the grandiose shopping center. The night was done magnificently with the help of high-profile faces and even higher-priced items, draping the bodies of tall, statuesque models in an applause-worthy presentation of Etro’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection just outside the store. Christmas came early! Guests were greeted with edible delicacies, floating on the trays of young, fresh-faced servers, who made sure no one was left hungry, while cocktails occupied the refined palates of the privileged invitees. Silence was an apparent absconder at the cultivated fashion event; the musical notes of the Dj for the night, clouded the sound waves, but were overtaken by the chatter of the enthusiastic crowd that couldn’t keep quite about the arrival of one of their favorite designers.
