My Miami: Natalie Gal

November-December Issue 2015 Photographed by Catherine Asanov Natalie Gal is an American actress and model. She was born in 1989 to the family of an opera singer and a poet. Not surprisingly, she started studying ballet, gymnastics, arts, along with playing piano, singing, and performing in a theatre at the age of six. She is often compared to a young Angelina Jolie, considered to be a very promising young actress by media and magazines. She studied acting at NYU and speaks four languages fluently. Not only is Natalie represented by top model agencies around the world, but is also actively involved in various charities that are near to her heart, such as Artists for Peace and Justice and has done several campaigns for PETA. In September 2010, she was chosen to be the chairman of People Power Progress (PPP). She lives between NYC and LA, produces her TV show Fashion Destinations (airing on FashionTV), hosts a show on NEWTV, produces projects in Los Angeles and frequently travels to several cities around the world for work. She has starred in different movie productions and modeled for different brands such as Chanel, Cavalli, Alexander Wang, Prada, CoverGirl, Guess, Diesel, Alexander McQueen, and Revlon. She’s been on the covers of Grazia, Mademoiselle, Madam Figaro, and Modern Luxury to name a few. Currently she made a switch from modeling to acting, while still being an ambassador for many brands. She produces and stars in features with actors such as Samuel Jackson, Lindsay Lohan, Amber Heard and Kelan Lutz. Natalie recently hit the big screen in Jobs and Syrup. She is currently in the process of filming Enter The Fist with Danny Trejo. Since she is a self-proclaimed Miami lover, we couldn’t wait to hear the details… When in Miami you can catch me… Usually shopping! I enjoy all the Miami stores, little boutiques in all corners of the city, vintage shops in Wynwood Art District, or outside of SoBe. Of course, you also have to hit the big fancy ones, like Bal Harbour. After the shopping, I’m usually poolside at the Delano Hotel. I cannot tell you how many celebrities I spot during my visits there – so if you care for high-end people watching, then this is your place to stay. The biggest misconception about Miami is… That South Beach is the only place to be. I love Wynwood, Little Havana, Coral Gables, the Design District, and Coconut Grove. I am a big location junkie for my photo shoots and I typically ask a photographer or art director if we can shoot somewhere interesting, old, weird, or local. So I personally check out those locations on the mission to find interesting places to shoot, and Miami has so many! The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was… Juvia and Zuma all the way! I fell in love with Zuma when I first visited in London. It’s a hot spot for very attractive people (in case you want to meet a few wink-wink!). If you haven’t already, I dare you to order a few cocktails there, they are outstanding. Aside from the weather, the best reason to return to Miami is… There’s always something happening, music, art, fashion, and with new people. Of course, for me it’s Art Basel and Miami Fashion Week. Soho House is swarmed with people and hot outfits during MFW. I usually stay at SLS for MFW and get the most fantastic experience! For Art Basel, people come from all over the world to buy and celebrate art – its the best time to meet someone fun and interesting and get inspired by their talents. The first time I became really curious about Miami was… It was during my time as an up-and-coming, fresh-out-of-old-Europe model. I was instantly in love! I remember I went to the local coffee shop and everyone spoke Spanish there, which made the city appeal even worldlier to me. Then I was bedazzled by the Art Deco style, the atmosphere, the people, and then of course the hot nightlife. Miami felt instantly like the total package. The mother of two was raised in Cape May, New Jersey, but moved to Miami when she was younger and later earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. Her quirky blog captures the essence of her bubbly personality while she expresses her experience and advice on all things fashion, beauty, travel, and personal development. The Wordy Girl: I’ll never get sick and tired of a bold, red lip with winged eye liner. MSM: What new beauty trend can’t you wait to try this fall? MSM: Who is your ultimate beauty icon? TWG: I fell in love with model Helena Christensen ever since her starring role in Chris Issak’s Wicked Game video. She’s perfection. MSM: Go-to beauty secret? TWG: I’ve tried them all and Chanel’s Imitable Intense mascara works wonders. MSM: One beauty product you can’t leave the house without? TWG: Beauty for Real’s lip glosses. Nordstrom Spring Beauty Trend Show at Aventura Mall

By Gisel Habibnejad Aventura Mall’s Nordstrom celebrated spring the best way possible with The Nordstrom Spring Beauty Trend Show. They invited Miamians and local beauty lovers to experience their products like never before with exclusive access to presentations featuring highly knowledgeable brand and beauty experts accompanied with demonstrations of the quality of their products. Learning the history behind all these brands and unique products allows customers to get a first hand look at their details in a special and exciting way. The beauty trends discussed for spring ranged from eye shadow colors to lipstick. For lids, an ashy light purple makes any eye color pop, especially with a touch of shimmer. For lips, a red-orange color is perfect for the spring/summer months and also adds chicness to your look. For daytime, this color can work alone with some mascara. For night, heavy eye makeup, such as a smokey eye or winged eye liner, can complete your evening look. Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyebrow brand trusted by the stars, Anastasia Beverly Hills, explained what makes their technique different from others and why they trump all types of eyebrow shaping methods – even threading! First, they measure your ideal eyebrow according to your bone structure and your desired thickness. Then, they draw in how your brows should look. Finally, they wax any excess hairs outside of your new circumference. They offer amazing products such as the Advanced Brow Enhancing Serum to help stimulate growth of hairs in areas where you lack the growth to shape your brow perfectly. The best part is, of course, their type of wax. It really doesn’t hurt or pull on your skin as much as other wax does! Bond No. 9 Bond No. 9 is not just any perfume brand. This luxury boutique brand is only sold in Saks 5th Avenue stores across the country. However, the Nordstrom in Aventura Mall is the only Nordstrom in the Southeast to carry this lovely brand of perfume and cologne. The presentation given by their specialists is outstanding as they take you through the neighborhoods of New York. The founder, Laurice Rahme, broke away from her previous job to create a line of perfumes dedicated to New York. The line consists of scents dedicated to Brooklyn, Manhattan, Andy Warhol Silver Factory, Madison Square Park, and more. Each bottle is beautifully decorated and the scent is inspired by its corresponding city. This week, they are launching the Park Avenue South perfume which is predicted to become a best-seller. Speaking of best-sellers, their most popular are The Scent of Peace for her and their Bond No. 9 Signature fragrance. Amore Pacific Probably one of the best skincare lines out there – Amore Pacific – is all natural and bases most of their products on Green Tea Leaves and Bamboo tree. Their products are fragrance free which allow you to smell the natural ingredients further proving the naturalness found in the creams and facial washes. Not only this, but some of the products’ difference can be seen in their physicality and textures. For instance, most exfoliators contain beads which scratch your face when scrubbed. Their version of an exfoliator, Treatment Enzyme Peel, actually starts off as a powder – yes, powder. When you twist the top of the bottle open, the precise amount of powder is released, then add water to gently exfoliate your face. Because each amount is previously measured precisely, scientists were able to calculate the exact timespan of each bottle which is one year if used once a day. Another unique and appreciated detail attributed to this brand is that scientists do not release a product unless 100% of the 200 testers provide great reviews of the product. Chanel The brand name already speaks for itself. People everywhere (fashionista or not) know this brand and automatically think of top of the line, class, and always in style. This is also true about their beauty products. The brand began its beauty line with a perfume known as Chanel No. 5. Ever since then, it became a staple in the beauty world. Their foundation, Vitalumiere Aqua, mirrors this perfectly as the quality can be seen and felt in its texture. The light formula glides on smoothly leaving the face to appear smooth. This product definitely does not require a filter! For more information, please visit http://www.aventuramall.com/department-stores/item/nordstrom.html

Spring Fashion Trends

By Katie Jackson  This spring season, fashion is kicked up a notch with a modern twist on style favorites. The free-spirited bohemian style, or boho-chic, is now presented as evening wear, featuring stunning, loosely fitted silhouettes and draped fabrics in the form of long, formal gowns. New iterations of America’s favorite textile, denim, dominated the runways while suede, with a slight seventies vibe, makes a huge comeback. Whether you are looking to amp up your wardrobe or create a new spin on a style staple, we’ve gathered the top spring 2015 trends that have made the biggest impact straight from the runways of New York, Paris, London, and Milan. FRINGE Fresh off the runways of Proenza Schouler and Emilio Pucci, fringe is making a huge splash in the spring 2015 style scene. Wear it in the form of a flapper girl-inspired dress, a jacket, or shorts adorned with long, unexpected streamers. Fringed Dress by H&M HM.com / $39.95               BOHEMIAN CHIC As seen on the Valentino, Vera Wang, and Joseph Altuzarra runways, the already romantic look has been transformed into something even more spectacular. But while refined pinstripes, in any color, will always be in style, the design on cropped pants and trousers is a must this season. Pants by Ann Taylor AnnTaylor.com / $98           DENIM Denim is having a major style moment, and Alexa Chung for AG Jeans is at the forefront. The British style icon teamed up with the luxury denim brand to create a collection comprised of dresses, tops, and high-waisted jeans. The Pixie – Lightsome by Alexa Chung for AG Jeans AGJeans.com / $325       THE TOTE The beloved tote never goes out of style. Signature Exotic Embossed Mini Bucket Bag by Ann Taylor AnnTaylor.com / $118     SUEDE Gone are the days where leather is among the most worn fabrics of the stylish and fashionable. Suede has returned, and it’s here to stay. Offered in a seventies-inspired yet updated aesthetic in the form of dresses, skirts, and tops in subdued colors, suede is quickly reclaiming its place as one of the most coveted fabrics. But this season, florals are offered in such a stylish abundance it almost feels wrong to not whole-heartedly embrace the trend. LXR & CO: Coveted Luxury

BY KATIE JACKSON Photography by IMANI OGDEN LXR & Co. is a dream turned reality for those who love upscale accessories. Carrying a carefully curated selection of vintage hand- bags and other highly coveted accessories from the top fashion houses in the world, it is no surprise that the store has over two hundred thousand members online alone. What started as a small boutique in Montreal, Canada has now expanded to the U.S., bringing a new level of luxury to the accessory obsessed. With locations in Beverly Hills, Manhattan, and Long Island, LXR & Co. now plans to expand to cities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. And, with much an- ticipation, a location in Miami is next on the list. In 2008, LXR & Co. opened its doors to a very small clientele in a little boutique in Queen Mary, Montreal. Traveling to international fashion houses to acquire a superior level of stock, including handbags from Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Prada, and Ferragamo, LXR & Co. earned a reputation for carrying accessories that were of the highest quality. In 2012, the boutique decided to launch a flagship store in Beverly Hills, California. “When we first opened our store, of course, we wanted to sell, but we also wanted to buy,” says corporate retail leader Sam Gebran. “We thought Beverly Hills would be a great place to get our hands on some of those really great, rare pieces.”And they were right.Adding to their already superior collection, the Beverly Hills lo- cation quickly skyrocketed LXR & Co. to the top. Not only did the store catch the attention of famous locals, such as model Joanna Krupa and Shahs of Sunset star Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi, celebrity stylists and personal shoppers became regulars. “We work with personal stylists for the Kardashians,” says Gebran. The attention accumulated further after an LXR & Co. location was opened in Manhattan. The Manhattan location started the concept of the Birkin Bar, an eye-catching display of different designs of the highly sought-after Hermès Birkin bag. The store also began to display the popu- lar hand-painted Louis Vuitton trunks from artist Mike Frederiqo. “He was the one that started the luxury cartoon trend,” says Gebran. The unique displays attracted famous fashion bloggers, such as Chiara Ferragni of “The Blonde Salad” and Aimee Song of “Song of Style,” who helped make LXR & Co. mainstream. Now, LXR & Co. appeals to a wide-range of customers seeking to own a piece of swoon-worthy vintage. The store hopes to continue to bring customers exceptional collections of accessories by expanding to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Paramus, New Jersey; and eventually Miami. “We did a pop up and wear every happy with Miami,” says Gebran.“We want to find a good location, because the Miami clientele is similar to BeverlyHills. It’s a very luxurious environment.” For more information, please visit www.lxrco.com  Click here to view post on the 2015 March/April issue.
