Paint the Town Red: Miami Being Well-Fed

By Justina Coronel Red, The Steakhouse has created a secret menu with multiple items ranging from appetizers to desserts. Executive Chef, Peter Vauthy, formed an amazing menu that features only the finest Certified Angus Beef Prime with every food item being made from scratch. Vauthy said that he had to limit the original menu but if anyone asked for any of the items off the secret menu that they would be able to whip it up as well. The appetizers entailed five different choices but the flash fried lobster tail and the king crab cake with corn salsa stole the show and our taste buds. With the entrees, the 28 Day Dry Certified Angus Beef Prime King Crab Crusted Tomahawk and the Certified Angus Beef “Prime Rib” were worthwhile with every single bite. To tie it together, the sides were the perfect combination including the mac n cheese flight, which featured a Bacon Mac, a King Crab Mac, and a White Truffle Mac. With all these multiple food options, the secret’s out and each item is delicious, there is not one single doubt. For more information, please visit www.redthesteakhouse.com

Food Network UK Star, Andy Bates, Brings a British Gastropub to Miami

By Justina Coronel Photography by Alex McKenzie Photography The Arts and Entertainment District has been known for its live musical performances, outdoor movie nights, and creative events to get the community involved. In November, the project A&Eats: The Search for Miami’s Next Great Restaurant Concept, which is a community-driven contest, put together a live cook-off competition for a winner to open up the next big thing in their area. With more than 60 submissions, 4,000 online votes, and 30 plus semifinalists, The Avenue was a people’s choice and ultimate winner. The Avenue, a British gastropub concept, will open up in the fall on the ground floor of the Filling Station Lofts to take over Miami’s taste buds. The Food Network UK star, Andy Bates, is the mastermind and chef in construing these mouth-watering British pub food classics that are perfectly paired with American craft beers. As a starter, guests can enjoy the Welsh Rarebit, which is ‘deviled’ cheddar cheese and beer placed on toasted sourdough paired with a light and crisp beer. Another dish called the Scotch Egg has a soft boiled egg wrapped in sausage that is breaded and fried. Besides having the classic recipe of fish and chips, The Avenue will also have a British favorite, the Pie and Mash, which is a beef, ale, and bone marrow pie with a side of mash and peas. To top it off, a delicious dessert option will include a Sticky Toffee Pudding, which is a date and treacle sponge with condensed milk ice cream. With hearty meals and brews, The Avenue will have a down-to-earth atmosphere and will be the newest hot spot in the upcoming Arts and Entertainment District.

LuLu & LaLa: The Unstoppable Duo

By Justina Coronel Photography by Pulse Creative With spark, energy, charisma, personality, and passion, LuLu & LaLa are the twin sisters, or better known as “Las Gemelas LuLu & LaLa,” who have captivated the Latin market with their dancing, acting, hosting appearances, and now as the newest on-air talent for HITS 97.3. These Cuban-Salvadorian sisters were born in New Jersey in 1984 as Marissa and Marianela. “Most identical twins have a twin language. Our older sister’s name is Liliana and everyone calls her Lili. So within our twin language we heard Lili all the time and then LuLu decided to name Marissa, LaLa and LaLa decided to name Marianela, LuLu.” And the names LuLu & LaLa stuck. With 10 years of professional dancing and modeling experience, these two were also gifted with the act of hosting. In 2007, the dynamic duo was hired by Univision as correspondents in the reality show, Nuestra Belleza Latina. Following that, they were regular correspondents on Univision’s highest rated national television show, El Gordo y la Flaca. This continued with many events such as Premios Juventud, Premio Lo Nuestro 2010 and 2011, Latin Grammys 2011, and the auditions for Nuestra Belleza Latina. They completed an internship with the show E-Asylum as well, which allowed them to travel across the country for a year interviewing a variety of artists, such as Justin Timberlake, Halle Berry, and Robin Williams. These two have also been endorsed and have appeared in commercials by multiple clients such as Subway and McDonald’s. LuLu and LaLa have done all of this and more together, side-by-side. “The best thing about working together is that we have perfect chemistry with each other. We both know what we each wants and we know how to bring out the good in each other. We are best friends and we have each other’s back always.” Now, this bubbly pair is working with Cox Media’s station HITS 97.3 as their new hosts. “Hosting our own show together on HITS 97.3 is a dream come true! We are very close and we know each other so well that it just works out. The company we work for, Cox Media, is amazing and they really take care of you and really want to see their talent grow and expand so we are just very happy.” At times, it wasn’t the easiest path to get there, but these girls are beyond grateful for the opportunities they have been given. “We have worked hard and hustled hard to be where we are. Starting in this career is difficult and you don’t really get paid well at first. You are practically starving in the beginning. However, we always stuck by it. We wake up every morning happy to do what we love to do and unfortunately not many people can say that about their job. We’re so grateful.” The journey for these two has been adventurous and they have hustled hard to get to where they are. These energetic, full-of-life sisters will always be by each other’s sides no matter what the future holds. “We want it all. We want to continue working with Cox Media, we would like our own TV show, a one hit wonder on the radio (yes, we sing too), and to get married, have kids, and to know we will always be able to provide for our family. Dream big, be big!” With these two, anything is possible. Coconut Grove Welcomes a New Dining Experience: 33

By Justina Coronel Coconut Grove has just been sprinkled with a bit more flavor. A new refreshing dining experience, called 33, opened its doors on Saturday, December 5th, 2015. This Peruvian influenced theme will give guests true quality of delicious flavors with no more than six ingredients, as “attention to taste” is Chef Sebastian Fernandez’s key ingredient to his own success. The menu will even change depending on availability, which will bring a variety not only to the menu but also to the palate. Chef Fernandez and his wife, Leslie, transformed the place into more of an open and inviting space for guests to enjoy. Walking in, guests will be able to notice the large illuminating sign behind the bar titled ‘SED,’ meaning thirsty in Spanish; the bar itself was even designed by Fernandez using reclaimed wood from pallets and copper. To Fernandez, the name ‘33’ means more than the grove’s zip code, which is ‘33133’, but more a sense of belief, in which he truly believes that the number is lucky. But, the food that Fernandez provided is more than just luck. His touch in coordinating flavors together is a special skill providing guests a pure tour of Peruvian flavors and the use of international techniques and influences. Two dishes include classics such as the causa limena and the ceviche de corvina. The causa limena incorporated purple potato, fresh ahi tuna, avocado, and aji Amarillo sauce. The standard Peruvian dish, the ceviche, had lime, ginger, cilantro, red onions, and aji Amarillo for a bit of a kick. The plates are meant to share in order for guests to try all the different types of tastes flourished into the recipes. Make sure to attend 33 because after tasting these Peruvian dishes, you will truly feel lucky. 33 is located at 3195 Commodore Plaza in Coconut Grove
