JOANNA KRUPA 2.0  Miami’s Favorite Supermodel Keeps Getting Better

[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10494″] Hypnotizing lashes by Joanna Krupa www.secretlashes.com Photographer: @MarcinSowa   Hair & Make up: Tony Yates Interviewed by Nadja Atwal Joanna Krupa is one of those few women I have enjoyed having in my life for many many years. One rarely finds people who have a big heart and big personality (and all that wrapped up in stunning looks). What always impressed me most with her was what a quick learner she has always been. I recall a million dollar charity poker tournament she entered many moons ago organized by Trump. She was one of the very few celebrities there who had never played before, but still wanted to do it and simply got a mini crash course on site. Naturally neither Jojo (how many of her friends call her) nor I had any expectations for her to make it even to the 2nd round. Well, … she won the whole damn thing  – for a great cause –  and next thing I know she was playing at the World Series of Poker in Vegas as one of the last celebrities standing. On the contrary, many young models I meet today who not only bore me to tears but also offend me with their I-am-hot-so-gimme attitude, Joanna never had a sense of entitlement just because she was beautiful. She always impressed with a humble, cordial, dependable, hard working personality … unlike many people from LA she is on time! Her family values are profound and rare and most of her friends have been with her for too many years to count. Her love for animals goes way beyond showing up for some charity event – which is really all that most celebs invest. Krupa has put her reputation on the line to make a stand for animals via controversial PETA campaigns or confronting celebrities who make business with selling or wearing fur products.  She would rescue dogs from shelters, keep as many as she could in her house and others she would raise funds for to pay for their needed surgeries and put them with new owners (for that matter I encourage you to check out her charity site http://angelsforanimalrescue.org). Last but not least on the looks front she has become even more beautiful and is busier than ever as a model, host and business woman. Of course, like all of us she has had her fair share of tough life lessons. Her latest one was the divorce from husband Miami Businessman Romain Zago. But while others would have likely used this experience as an excuse to become bitter or drown in self-pity, Joanna simply turned lemons into lemonade. I spoke with her exclusively about life, loss and lessons learned. NA: You had a lot of changes in the last 12 months to put it mildly … JK: Oh yes, my life changed drastically. From being with someone for 10 years to a separation and divorce to being engaged to my new love not even a year later to now planning a family … NA: That is beyond a lot … especially since a divorce always feels a like a loss, as obviously the idea was to stay together forever when you tied the knot … JK: Definitely, I felt initially that my world was falling apart. But shock and sadness quickly turned into gratefulness. I am so grateful to have had such a best friend for so many years, cause that’s what Romain was and we are still close friends today. Our marriage was a great learning experience and made us both better in the end. The divorce also made me look at life differently; it was a wake up call, because while my career was and is important, I needed to be serious about family planning, if I wanted children. So I would have to adjust my life accordingly. And suddenly my biggest fear was: what if I didn’t find the right person to start a family with? Thankfully it was in my stars to meet the right person. And rather quickly!  I followed the very advice that I preach to others: be positive, love yourself, learn from every experience and apply that knowledge.  NA: How is your life now? And have your priorities changed at all? JK: My life is great right now. Overall I have always been a happy person and grateful for what I have. I think I became a better, stronger person though and yes, my priorities have changed … I love my work, but my significant other comes first and I want to be a mother. It helps that my fiancée lives in LA, like I do. During my last marriage we were apart too often and I learned from that to not repeat that long distance relationship model again.  NA: As if being in LA and Miami wasn’t enough, you have created a triangle that involves Poland where you have been the host of Poland ’s Next Top Model for many years. Still going strong? JK: Yes and I’m so very thankful for being the host and a judge on this amazing show. We are now filming the 7th season and I guess it’s one of the highest rated shows in Poland because we always keep it fresh with new challenges for the contestants and we‘ve had lots of international filming. Plus unlike several other talent shows where the contestants don’t get many opportunities afterwards, ours provides the contestants with real opportunities to work in the fashion and entertainment industry. And the audience keeps following the next steps that those contestants take. Our show has real success stories. NA: What other projects are on the horizon ? JK: I’m getting more and more involved in the business side of things that I’m passionate about. The cover shoot is featuring my line of false lashes, for example. I’ll be launching a few more products, one has to do with fitness and another with a very innovative skincare.  Then another project with, of course, animals is coming up. So stay tuned and follow me on social media, as it

Nicole Williams from WAGS on E!

Written by Gisel Habibnejad Cover Photo and Photography by Josh Ryan Makeup Artist by Janelle Faretra Styling by Kat Lozhnikova For anyone who stays up to date with pop culture, it’s no secret Nicole Williams is taking the modeling industry by storm. Never shying away from a busy schedule, she also stars in the hit reality television series WAGS on E! The show follows the lives of Williams and her cast mates through which viewers experience a glimpse into the exclusive lives of wives and girlfriends of professional athletes. Williams has been dating Larry English, an NFL defensive end, for close to five years now. “I think our relationship is very relatable to a lot of people who watch.” Prior to WAGS, Williams had already made a name for herself as a professional model. “My mom used to put me in classes so I could get a better feel for being in front of the cameras and I LOVED it!” Her first big break was her Bonne Bell Cosmetics campaign in Canada. A model on a mission, Williams has struck numerous deals throughout her career—her latest being an ad campaign with PETA. In an effort to raise awareness for animal cruelty, she was honored to team up with PETA for a special cause. “It was amazing working with PETA, honestly a dream come true for me,” shares the vegan. “If I can use this little bit of fame for one thing, it’s to spread awareness all around the world.” The ad campaign hones in on the gruesome reality animals undergo in the leather making process. PETA encourages consumers to opt for vegan leather instead of real leather. Vegan fashion goods can be found at top brands such as Stella McCartney and Free People. The Canadian-born beauty has also been busy modeling for other campaign ads. Earlier this year, Williams posed for the luxury lingerie brand Agent Provocateur’s Aphrodisiaque perfume ad. Skincare has always been important to Williams, so naturally, partnering up with BodyBlendz was a match made in heaven. The premier natural body scrub brand created a Coffee Scrub inspired by Williams’ own beauty regimens. “I used some of my favorite scents that I use at home, it’s so good for your skin to exfoliate, it gets rid of dry dead skin and keeps your skin radiant and smooth.” Some of the vital ingredients used to make the scrub include coffee beans (great for minimizing the appearance of cellulite) and sea salt (leaves skin feeling soft). In addition, together with BodyBlendz, Williams will be launching a new tropical and beachy mist called Mandarin Mist. Poised to conquer the fashion world, Williams will be launching a swimwear line this summer called Nia Lynn. The collection will consist of three bikinis and three one-pieces, staying true to this summer’s hottest trends like mesh, strappy features, and neutral colors. You can keep up with Williams by watching WAGS Sunday nights at 10:00pm only on E! “You definitely don’t want to miss this season because there’s a few surprises in store for everyone!! It gets really exciting.” You can also follow her on social media (@justtnic), to get sneak peeks of her swimwear line.

My Miami: Natalie Gal

November-December Issue 2015 Photographed by Catherine Asanov Natalie Gal is an American actress and model. She was born in 1989 to the family of an opera singer and a poet. Not surprisingly, she started studying ballet, gymnastics, arts, along with playing piano, singing, and performing in a theatre at the age of six. She is often compared to a young Angelina Jolie, considered to be a very promising young actress by media and magazines. She studied acting at NYU and speaks four languages fluently. Not only is Natalie represented by top model agencies around the world, but is also actively involved in various charities that are near to her heart, such as Artists for Peace and Justice and has done several campaigns for PETA. In September 2010, she was chosen to be the chairman of People Power Progress (PPP). She lives between NYC and LA, produces her TV show Fashion Destinations (airing on FashionTV), hosts a show on NEWTV, produces projects in Los Angeles and frequently travels to several cities around the world for work. She has starred in different movie productions and modeled for different brands such as Chanel, Cavalli, Alexander Wang, Prada, CoverGirl, Guess, Diesel, Alexander McQueen, and Revlon. She’s been on the covers of Grazia, Mademoiselle, Madam Figaro, and Modern Luxury to name a few. Currently she made a switch from modeling to acting, while still being an ambassador for many brands. She produces and stars in features with actors such as Samuel Jackson, Lindsay Lohan, Amber Heard and Kelan Lutz. Natalie recently hit the big screen in Jobs and Syrup. She is currently in the process of filming Enter The Fist with Danny Trejo. Since she is a self-proclaimed Miami lover, we couldn’t wait to hear the details… When in Miami you can catch me… Usually shopping! I enjoy all the Miami stores, little boutiques in all corners of the city, vintage shops in Wynwood Art District, or outside of SoBe. Of course, you also have to hit the big fancy ones, like Bal Harbour. After the shopping, I’m usually poolside at the Delano Hotel. I cannot tell you how many celebrities I spot during my visits there – so if you care for high-end people watching, then this is your place to stay. The biggest misconception about Miami is… That South Beach is the only place to be. I love Wynwood, Little Havana, Coral Gables, the Design District, and Coconut Grove. I am a big location junkie for my photo shoots and I typically ask a photographer or art director if we can shoot somewhere interesting, old, weird, or local. So I personally check out those locations on the mission to find interesting places to shoot, and Miami has so many! The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was… Juvia and Zuma all the way! I fell in love with Zuma when I first visited in London. It’s a hot spot for very attractive people (in case you want to meet a few wink-wink!). If you haven’t already, I dare you to order a few cocktails there, they are outstanding. Aside from the weather, the best reason to return to Miami is… There’s always something happening, music, art, fashion, and with new people. Of course, for me it’s Art Basel and Miami Fashion Week. Soho House is swarmed with people and hot outfits during MFW. I usually stay at SLS for MFW and get the most fantastic experience! For Art Basel, people come from all over the world to buy and celebrate art – its the best time to meet someone fun and interesting and get inspired by their talents. The first time I became really curious about Miami was… It was during my time as an up-and-coming, fresh-out-of-old-Europe model. I was instantly in love! I remember I went to the local coffee shop and everyone spoke Spanish there, which made the city appeal even worldlier to me. Then I was bedazzled by the Art Deco style, the atmosphere, the people, and then of course the hot nightlife. Miami felt instantly like the total package. JOANNA KRUPA

SUPERMODEL JOANNA KRUPA PROVES BEAUTY IS MORE THAN SKIN DEEP Interviewed By Katie Jackson Photographed by Alessandra Fiorini Hair & Makeup by Tony Yates Styled by Katie Jackson Set Assistant: Nycole Sariol Location: 1100 Millecento Brickell Most know Joanna Krupa as the mega successful supermodel who has graced the covers of major publications including Maxim, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour, or as the star of the hit reality television shows Dancing with the Stars and The Real Housewives of Miami. But the Polish-American beauty’s success goes far beyond her glamorous glossy magazine covers and stints on TV. Krupa is leading a powerful movement against animal cruelty, actively protesting the injustice that happens to innocent animals every day. In providing care for abandoned animals through her organization Angels for Animal Rescue, participating in campaigns for PETA, and blasting animal cruelty on her social media accounts, Krupa has helped save thousands of animals’ lives. To this day, Krupa lives and breathes her beliefs, making her not only an icon in the fashion industry, but also an example of how to relentlessly stand up for a cause in which you truly believe. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Krupa moved to the United States at a young age and worked her way up to becoming one of the most successful supermodels. After landing high-profi le spreads in magazines and roles in multiple movies and television shows, Krupa was approached to become a part of the cast of The Real Housewives of Miami, a reality television show surrounding the lives of several glamorous women living in the Magic City. The show highlighted Krupa’s relationship with now husband and Mynt Lounge owner Romain Zago, airing their nuptials on the Season 3 finale. Through the series, Krupa has remained friends with a few of the RHOM cast members, including Miami’s go-to celebrity dentist Karent Sierra. “One of the best things that came out of the show was my friendship with Karent,” said Krupa. “She is one of my closest friends.” Since the show’s last season, Krupa has been enjoying being a newlywed while also maintaining a busy career schedule and traveling back and forth between her homes in Miami and Los Angeles. Most of Krupa’s projects are based in L.A., while Zago’s are in Miami. Though she admits that living a bi-coastal lifestyle provides its diffi culties, Krupa says it is crucial to maintaining both her career and a healthy marriage with Zago. “We make it work because we have no other choice,” said Krupa. “Neither one of us want to give up our careers. But when we are ready to start a family we will have to be based in one city when our kids start school.” In addition to her marriage and career, Krupa has made animal activism an immensely important priority in her life. Always an animal lover, Krupa realized the horrific cruelty millions of animals experience after watching a PETA—People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals—video. “I saw the way animals are skinned alive for their fur, and I had to do something,” said Krupa. “I had to help spread awareness and be a voice for the voiceless and defenseless. I decided to dedicate my life to do whatever I possibly could to spread the message on all types of animal cruelty until the day that I die.” Krupa began participating in PETA campaigns, bringing worldwide attention to animal cruelty and the anti-fur movement. After becoming one of PETA’s most successful models, Krupa led animal cruelty protests before deciding to create her own non-profit organization Angels for Animal Rescue. “There are so many big organizations out there where you don’t know exactly where the money is going,” said Krupa. “So I wanted to open my own organization where I know that one hundred percent of the money is going to the animals.” While Krupa’s organization is small—it is run solely by Krupa, her rescue partner Gabi Gutierrez, and sister Marta—Angels for Animal Rescue has been responsible for saving thousands of animals’ lives. “We rescue all kinds of animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, pigs, chickens, etc.,” said Krupa. “But since we don’t have our own facility we rely on donations and fosters to grow our rescue efforts so we can keep saving lives.” But Krupa’s animal activism does not end there. Krupa has also spoken out against animal testing, and even decided to create her own cruelty-free skincare line, Cellogica. “I wanted products that really work and that aren’t tested on animals,” said Krupa. “There is no reason at all to test on poor, innocent animals for products.” Cellogica uses natural ingredients to reverse the signs of ageing at the cellular level. “There is a day cream and a night cream, and they both do their individual magic which makes them a great team.” As far as her successful modeling and TV career, Krupa will soon be jetting off to her homeland for Season 5 of Poland’s Next Top Model, and then head back to L.A. to shoot a movie where she—very fittingly—will play an animal activist. But no matter what prominent project Krupa takes on, it is evident that she models so much more than the latest chic fashions and sultry swimwear. My Miami: Nadja Atwal

Photography by Enrique Vega Nadja Atwal, 35, is a “jack of all trades”  businesswoman, and a style  public relations expert. She designs, writes, inspires, coaches, and produces media projects: from animal rights photo campaigns for PETA to feature films like Without Men, starring Eva Longoria. In 2013, she was named “Sexiest Power Woman of All-Time” by U.S. Lifestyle magazine, Viva Glam. The German born amazon, who currently resides in New York with her husband and son, was also appointed as the “fashion police” for the Oscars for European TV. She was also just hired as the style and beauty expert for the U.S. TV Show America’s It Girl. In Miami, you can catch me… At the amazing James Royal Palms Hotel, where I am building sandcastles by the beach with my husband and our 3 year old son, or riding one of their rental bikes. And, if we have a babysitter with us, dancing at Club Mynt at night. It’s also a special treat hanging out with my favorite Miami person, Supermodel Joanna Krupa. The biggest misconception about Miami is… That it is mainly a party town. For me, it has become my favorite sweet escape with the family. It is up to you to discover the Miami you want. The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was…. Lure Fishbar. I never take food pictures, but here I photographed their lovely sushi creations from every angle. Plus, I enjoyed the rustic yet romantic interior design. While we were there, the mayor enjoyed his dinner next to our table, so we felt like exclusive “Miami insiders.” What surprised me most about 35, is a “jack Miami was… The convenience factor with regards to the distance of the airport to the beach. The beauty of the art deco houses that can never be matched in photographs – you gotta experience it, walk by, stop, gaze. What titillated me was the prodigiously endowed mannequins in front of some shops on Collins Avenue. I believe it even surpasses Vegas standards. Aside from the weather, the best reason to return to Miami is… We (New Yorkers) are all about time and saving time. Those convenient 2-hour, 45-minute direct flights from New York to Miami are simply too tempting to ignore. The first time I became really curious about Miami was… When I watched Scarface. Even though most of the scenes were filmed in California, they took the right kind of establishing shots in Miami. What happens in Miami stays in Miami… and in MSM. Any secret or funny moment you ‘d like to share about you and this city? I was featured in an episode of The Real Housewives of Miami being productive and not causing drama. Sounds like an oxy-moron, I know (laughs).   Click here to view post on the 2015 March/April issue.

Fashion, Fashion 101, The Issue

Vegan Style: Fashion with Compassion

Photography by Antoine Verglas Gone are the days when vegan fashion was associated with bad taste. Today, many designers prove that faux fur and leather equals high fashion. There are tons of great cruelty-free designers that abstain from using animal’s skin, most notably Stella McCartney. Vivienne West- wood even pledged to the leading animal rights organization, PETA, back in 2007 to never use fur in her collections again. Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, and Tommy Hilfiger also joined the trend. And most recently, Inditex Co. (owners of Zara) have pledged to rid their inventory of all Angora rabbit fur. Some designers even go a step further: Vaute Couture, a completely vegan fashion house run by Leanne Maily Hilgart was the first all-vegan designer to show at NYFW 2013. No doubt about it, the new hot stars on design sky are not masters of silk and leather, but pioneers of high-end designs in faux leather and latex, like William Wilde who bedazzles Kim Kardashian, Kylie Minogue, and Beyoncé with his stage costumes and red carpet creations that seem to prove leather to be obsolete. “People want to look good in their fashion items, but not if that means that animals are being harmed and even skinned alive for it,” says Nadja Atwal, a top style-expert on TV who advises fashion brands worldwide and even posed for PETA. “Designers who still feel the need to use fur and leather find themselves more and more in hot waters. Sure, some people will resist any common sense argument and will still demand dead skin on their back to appear ‘rich,’ but more and more shoppers want to make a choice that feels ethically correct.” One of the brightest new stars on the haute couture fashion sky is Jasmin Erbas, whose team creates handmade gowns for the high-end customers from Hollywood to Miami, and from Berlin to Dubai. She is one of those designers who has craved – as she calls it – “good-karma fashion” from the start. After she won the Newcomer Designer Award in Europe, she quickly fooled leather experts with her real-looking vegan leather pieces. “I, thankfully, have many clients who desire fashion that is cruelty-free. It’s a win- win for both sides because it makes a customer even more beautiful and happy while making me more creative.” VEGAN IS CHIC Brands are picking up on the new direction and are now competing for titles like the recently launched PETA Vegan Fashion Award. Additionally, hashtags like #animalrights and #crueltyfree are now top trends on Twitter. A big challenge, however, seems to be finding fashionable shoes and bags that fit the vegan bill. Yes, we applaud fashion with a strong consciousness, but few are willing to compromise their “style.” VeganChic.com seems to present answers to all demands with anything from boots to belts, and wallets to kid’s shoes. At Noah-Shop.com, you will find the beauty of Italian vegan design from microfibre to bamboo, from elegant to casual, and from ballerina flats to key chains. A favorite among vegan-obsessed fashionistas are the ankle boots, pumps, and booties by Cri de Coeur. Andy Warhol once said: “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” With so many options to choose from, it’s no wonder vegan fashion is not just a trend anymore, but a change in the fashion world that is meant to stay.
