Maestro Cares Foundation Charity Event Miami 2025

Changing Lives, Building Dreams:The Maestro Cares Foundation Story Published by Angie LaGuardia • April 12, 2025 Words by Imani Ogden Photography by Jennifer Jensen / @jennshotthat Editor’s Note:At Miami Shoot Magazine, we believe in shining a light on stories that uplift and inspire. This feature, beautifully penned by Imani Ogden, takes us into the heart of the Maestro Cares Foundation, a beacon of hope for children across the Americas. We are honored to share this story of compassion, dedication, and the power of community. In 2011, a chance visit to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic sparked a chain reaction of kindness and compassion. Zaidy Cárdenas, now Executive Director of the Maestro Cares Foundation, was volunteering at the orphanage when she discovered a group of boys living in a separate, overcrowded home with scarce resources. Deeply moved by their plight, Zaidy enlisted the help of her father, Henry Cárdenas, and international music icon Marc Anthony. Together, they visited the orphanage and were inspired by the boys’ resilience and unwavering determination. In that moment, the Maestro Cares Foundation was born. A Mission to Make a Difference Founded in 2012, the Maestro Cares Foundation is dedicated to building homes and schools for disadvantaged children throughout Latin America and the United States. The organization’s mission is simple yet profound: to create safe, loving environments where children can access quality education and enriching recreational programs. The foundation’s inaugural project, the Orfanato Niños de Cristo in La Romana, Dominican Republic, opened its doors in 2014 and has since become a beacon of hope for 50 boys. But the story doesn’t end there. Maestro Cares has grown its impact, expanding into educational programs in Peru and developing new initiatives in Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Chile, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina, and across the United States. Jorge Linares enjoying a moment of reflection at the Maestro Cares charity event. A Special Partnership Among the foundation’s most inspiring collaborations is its partnership with four-time world champion boxer Jorge Linares. Linares has generously donated his boxing gloves and iconic Samurai walk-out jacket from his 2021 fight against Devin Haney. More importantly, he serves as an ambassador and mentor at Brawlerz Box, sharing his expertise and passion with the next generation of athletes. Through Brawlerz Box and the Maestro Cares Foundation, Jorge Linares exemplifies the spirit of giving back, empowering young people to pursue their dreams and realize their full potential. A Vision for a Brighter Future At its heart, the Maestro Cares Foundation envisions a world where children can live, learn, and play in healthy, nurturing environments. By providing essential resources and unwavering support, the organization is empowering disadvantaged youth to grow into the leaders of tomorrow. As Maestro Cares continues to expand its reach, one thing remains steadfast: its commitment to changing lives and building dreams. With the dedication of supporters and partners like Jorge Linares, the foundation is illuminating a brighter future for thousands of children across Latin America and the United States. Join the Movement To learn more about the Maestro Cares Foundation and discover how you can get involved, visit their website at https://maestrocares.org/. From sparkling cocktails to dreamy mocktails, we’ve curated this selection of refreshing sips to brighten your days and lift your spirits. So grab your blender, pick up some fresh local fruits, and let’s toast to the magic of springtime in the Magic City! Sparkling White Sangria Recipe by Jennifer Segal A festive and fruity crowd-pleaser, this Sparkling White Sangria sparkles with life — just like a Miami evening. With a medley of citrus and stone fruits and a bubbly finish, it’s perfect for garden parties, rooftop gatherings, or a serene sunset moment at home. Servings: 4Total Time: 15 minutes Ingredients: 1 oz (2 tbsp) brandy or cognac 1 oz (2 tbsp) orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier) 1/3 cup superfine sugar (adjust for sweetness preference) 1 orange, halved 2 limes 1 small apple (Fuji or Honeycrisp), peeled and chopped 1 nectarine, chopped 1 bottle (750 ml) chilled sparkling wine (Cava, Prosecco, or Champagne) 1 cup lemon-lime soda (like Sprite) A few bunches of frozen grapes Instructions: In a large pitcher, combine brandy, orange liqueur, and sugar. Squeeze the juice from one lime and half of the orange into the pitcher. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Slice the remaining orange half and add to the pitcher along with the chopped apple and nectarine. Pour in the sparkling wine and lemon-lime soda. Add a generous bunch of frozen grapes for a chill effect without watering down the drink. Serve over ice cubes in individual glasses. Garnish with small bunches of frozen grapes and lime slices. Don’t forget to spoon in the luscious fruit for extra flavor! Editor’s Tip: Miami locals, visit Fresh Market Coconut Grove for the freshest selection of fruits and premium sparkling wines. Citrus Bourbon SmashCrafted by Miami SHOOT Magazine For those who savor bold flavors with a refreshing twist, this Citrus Bourbon Smash elevates the classic to vibrant Miami heights. Spotlighting sun-kissed local citrus and aromatic mint, it captures the spirited essence of spring in the Magic City. Smooth, bold, and kissed by citrus sunshine, this Citrus Bourbon Smash is the gentleman’s answer to a springtime cocktail. With bright notes of orange and lemon balanced by the deep warmth of bourbon and the refreshing lift of mint, it’s perfect for an upscale backyard gathering or a sunset toast overlooking Biscayne Bay. Servings: 1Total Time: 5 minutes Ingredients: 2 oz bourbon Juice of 1/2 locally grown lemon Juice of 1/2 ripe Florida orange 1 oz simple syrup (or honey syrup for added depth) Fresh mint leaves, plus sprig for garnish Orange peel, for garnish Ice cubes Instructions: In a cocktail shaker, muddle a few mint leaves with lemon juice, orange juice, and simple syrup to release the bright, herbal oils. Add bourbon and a handful of ice cubes. Shake well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled. Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with an elegant twist of orange peel and a sprig of mint for that final flourish. Editor’s Tip: Stroll through Coconut Grove Saturday Market and let the zesty aroma of sun-ripened oranges and lemons guide your selection. Locally grown citrus will brighten your Bourbon Smash with authentic Miami sunshine. What Makes This Cocktail Unique:This isn’t your typical Bourbon Smash. My Miami – Sarah Raskey

Interviewed by Nadja Atwal In a world full of overhyped and underdelivering artists, Sarah Raskey stands out with a rare combination of jaw-dropping creative skills, academic accomplishments, commercial success, praise by critics, plus – last but not least – remarkable grace and beauty combined with an adorable personality. She is a visionary artist, a licensed clinical professional psychotherapist, certified art therapist and a former graduate art therapy/psychology professor at both the school of the Art Institute of Chicago and DePaul University. You find her art at her own Sarah Raskey Fine Art Gallery in West Loop, Chicago where she exhibits her work exclusively. Sarah is also the co-founder/owner of Open Avenue Therapy, a Chicago-based private psychotherapy practice since 2008. She has exhibited nationally and internationally since 2000 and had created a prolific volume of work in both residential and commercial settings. Some of her notable works: She has several pieces at the Kimpton Hotel Allegro in Chicago which includes an 8’ x 6’ three-dimensional self portrait adorned with vintage jewelry, as well as 90’ of custom carpeting. Within the last years she has also created an illuminated 16’ x11’ custom art wall for MB Steak restaurant located in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Miami has a special place in her life: Sarah is the resident artist at Loews Miami Beach Hotel where she has designed and created a number of pieces including a 36’ curved and illuminated sculpture wall encrusted with natural crystals, custom carpeting throughout all of the hallway corridors and textile headboard walls in all of the 750+ guest rooms. If you can’t see it in person, at least follow her on Instagram and expect your eyes to open wide and your heart to skip a beat… Obviously we could not wait to learn about Sarah’s take on Miami… When in Miami you may catch me at… Definitely checking out a variety of new places that may have popped up in town since my last stay; but also revisiting my absolute favorites – Loews Miami Beach Hotel and Wynwood Walls are a must for me. And while I hate to…I have to give a stock tourist answer as well :I always try to carve out adequate beach time. There is no denying how brutal Chicago winters can be and Miami sun is the perfect antidote. The biggest misconception about Miami is… I think the biggest misconception about Miami is that its “best” offering is its postcard worthy beaches. I have found that there is so much more that Miami has offer. I love all of Miami’s art deco eye candy and iconic structures. It isn’t hard to peek around and find that this city has so many layers and is quite saturated with hidden gems and lots of soul. The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was… Byblos! Being a vegetarian it is a favorite of mine. It is this gorgeous Eastern Mediterranean restaurant with delicious vegetarian options, ambient atmosphere and these days even a swanky late night lounge. What surprised me about Miami was… Initially I found myself surprised by how art-centric the city is and how much it embraces the value of art and artists. Miami plays host to some of the most renown art happenings in the world including Art Basel and is home to a diverse and rich art culture such as the ever-evolving Wynwood Art District and Little Havana. Best reason to return to Miami aside from the weather? I am drawn to Miami’s colorful and full spectrum of nightlife and happenings and Miami’s overall “come as you are” vibe which makes it easy to just dive in and become immersed in the fabric of the community and culture. One of my very favorite things to do while visiting Miami is to listen to the spectrum of live music it has to offer and indulge in the electrifying vocals. Miami is brimming with unique spots to catch great live performances and some of my favorite spots showcase flamenco dancers. Its a specific kind of vibrance and one worth seeking out. First time I became really curious about Miami was… I came to visit Miami for the first time when I was 20 years old. Ironically, I stayed at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, and I will never forget just how special it all felt. I couldn’t put my finger on it then. But years later, I see exactly why Miami felt so special and why it will always have a place in my heart not only for my artwork but for my experiences. What happens in Miami stays in Miami…and our magazine. Any secret or funny moment you ‘d like to share about you and this city? I’ve had no shortage of epic or comedic moments in Miami, and I should probably only say that much! But what I can say, is that in my experience, what happens in Miami actually does not stay in Miami! I have serendipitously met some of the most incredible people in Miami over the years who I would consider dear friends still to this day. So while the details of our adventures may stay in Miami, the friendships have followed me home and I am grateful for that.

Voila with Chef Trisha Bloomer

Trisha Bloomer is a top chef, food stylist and a frequent flyer – due to her great love for Italy (don’t we all love Italy?). Whenever she comes back from her annual August trip to Bella Italia, she arrives with a big smile and can’t wait to cook the dishes she enjoyed most while being Overseas. For Miami Shoot Magazine, she walked down foodie-memory lane and shared some wonderful pictures and the recipe to one of her favorite Italian dishes…   TB: Come away with me and “Seas” the Day. After returning from 6 weeks in Italy I am still reminded of the Culinary delights of the Adriatic Sea. From NYC to Umbria, a short 7 hour train ride from Spoleto we arrived  to our Villa in Puglia to spend 6 days.   Although it is well into Autumn  I still crave the freshness of the Sea. One of absolute favorites dishes at the beach resorts we visited while in Puglia were Linguine a la Vongole. I adore this dish because there are so few ingredients. When I look at a recipe and it has more than 8 ingredients I start shutting down. OK this Recipe has 9 ingredients. Most of the ingredients are staples in my kitchen.   Stay with me here and Voila .. so off I went to Whole Foods to get my fresh Clams and fresh Italian parsley..   Set that table and invite family and only your best friends to enjoy … Linguini a la vongole 1lb Linguini 1/4 white onion diced 1lb Cockles or Clams (I prefer cockles) Closed clams ONLY 1/4 C Olive oil 1 Tbs Butter 6 cloves garlic Juice of one lemon 1/2 cup white wine 1/4 cup chopped parsley   Set  a large pot of water (add a Tbs of salt) on the stove to boil the Linguini in a large skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 Tbs. butter ( the olive oil prevents butter from burning) medium to low temp and cook the onion and garlic until soft and transparent.    Add your clams and lemon juice, white wine & bring to a boil. Cover the skillet to steam the clams .. in about 4 minutes the clams will open. Remove the  drained pasta into the clams and toss in the skillet. Serve into a pasta bowl that will hold the juices so you can dunk your bread of choice. Top with lots of chopped fresh parsley. Serve with a chilled white wine. Trebbiano di Abruzzo is my choice .. So crisp and clean ..  or any Pinot Grigio.   In Italy they will not let you add cheese to any fish dish .. but It’s OK to cheat !

Bucket List: The Most Beautiful Restaurants In The World

By Nadja Atwal Want to add some spice to your bucket list? We’ve created a list of the very restaurants that will bedazzle all your senses and will make you crave for more. 1) Kong, Paris (France) When you know Philippe Starck was in charge of design, you know  to expect something exceptional. And in this case, not just spectacular interior that reminds you of a transparent UFO, but also breathtaking views: Pont Neuf, Henri Sauvauge’s Art Deco design of the Samaritan building, Art Nouveau by Frantz Jourdain, another one shows the Seine, another of the Louis Vuitton HQ for the severe fashion addict. 2.) Brix 0.1, Brixen (Italy) In the Dolomites’ picturesque Lido Park, Italian star architect Markus Tauber created a masterpiece that should really be referred to as a “piece of art”. Brix 0.1 has quickly become one the most popular restaurants in the country with people traveling for hours and hours for a relaxing breakfast, lunch or dinner here that would for sure end up in their diaries as on of those most memorable moments. 3.) Heritage, Hamburg (Germany) By the river in Germany’s gorgeous maritime metropolis Hamburg, a striking gourmet tempel inside the famous Le Meridien Hotel emerges as a must-see place that will impress your taste buttons and will trigger your wanderlust –  or at least your desire for a little spin with a sailboat on the river. Add the impressive interior and first class French cuisine with just enough Asian twist and you got yourself a must-have experience. 4.) The French Laundry, Napa Valley (USA) Many have heard of it but too few have seen it yet. The French Laundry is known as the Über-Restaurant for gourmets. But not just the food is outstanding. The restaurant itself and the way it is embedded in the beauty of California’s famous wine region, Napa Valley, is simply too stunning to miss out on. 1600 square-foot made of river rock and timbers  – made in 1900 – enveloped in gorgeous flowers and the best nature has to offer, makes us not just enjoy the food but daydream as well. 5.) Ossiano, Dubai (UAE) Not swimming but dining with sharks seems like an adventure worth trying. Nestled in the famous Atlantis Hotel on Palm Island, this underwater spectacle guarantees its guests unforgettable moments  – plus outstanding food. Among other awards it was named the most romantic restaurant in Dubai! While you indulge in your fresh lobster you watch mantas floating by and per request a diver will display a message from the other side of the giant glass wall just for you or your loved one.

Tyla Durden on Miami

Tyla Durden is taking the post modern music scene by storm. After MTV Europe started to air her video “SexLoveMusicFashion”, Tyla Durden became an instant sensation. Her new Album TH3 OR1G1N4L is hyped as a masterpiece and her talents are validated in many arenas: she is a highly published photographer with top ad campaigns under her belt, a praised stylist, director, writer, musician and simply a woman with great vision. Almost the minute the Swiss beauty dropped her new post-modern Album, she got the attention of the US music scene, hence Tyla living a jetset life now between two continents working on her first US tour and several high profile collaborations. We were so happy to learn that Miami was her place of inspiration and wanted to find out more. When in Miami you  may catch me at…. …the beach or in an art gallery. For example at Daniela Wicki’s Gallery Second Avenue in Wynwood. She’s Swiss Origin as well and I admire her art and influence. Or you may catch me of course at Art Basel… This Art fair has its roots as well in switzerland. You see, Switzerland and miami have a wonderful marriage in some case. The biggest misconception about Miami is… …that Miami is just about having a party. It’s much more than that. For me this place means a lot of inspiring emotions. When i first visit Miami in 2008 I had this warm, pure wanderlust feeling inside of me. Knowing I can reach everything. This creative, openminded and cool place is fullfilled with great ideas and innovative people. The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was…. …at the Otentic Fresh Food Restaurant, Washington Ave. Fresh food, a cozy atmosphere and I must confess – a little European flair – there I feel most comfortable. Portions are also for small European-bellies, like mine and the desserts are divine. You feel like God in France. What surprised me about Miami was… …that Miami Beach has the worlds largest Art Deco architecture collection. I always knew there are a lot of beautiful buildings along the beach, but I was surprised how many nice Art Deco photo subjects I would find there. Miami with it’s over 800 Art Deco Buildings represents art, architecture and culture. For me as a Photographer and Filmmaker is this pure inspiration. It’s not surprising that so many movies and songs are about Miami. Best reason to return to Miami aside from the weather? Miami is riding a wave of technology and optimism that brings smart and risk-taking heads from other cities and country’s to dare a new business. For example, I heard they would like to make a new Silicon Valley. I am very interested in technology, science, art and music. As head of a private company, I know how much courage it takes to create something. Risk tolerance, courage and a good idea are just the beginning. Lots of patience and determination are the prerequisites. I know Miami is a place where such forward ideas are allowed to grow. This is a great reason to come here again and again, to see what’s new. First time I became really curious about Miami was …? Sometime around 2001 I just finished my Art School in Switzerland and started my education as an Advertising Photographer. I started dreaming of Miami – because my Photographer Idol Helmut Newton made stunning pictures there at the beach which exerted a huge influence on me and my art to this day. Then I heard that the Art Basel takes place in Miami now, I also remembered the movies Bad Boys, Scarface, Donnie Brasco and that’s when I knew I had to go there. What happens in Miami stays in Miami…and  our magazine. Any  secret  or funny moment you ‘d like to share about you and this city? My funny moment: When I woke up after my first Night in a hotel at Miami Beach on Ocean Drive, I checked out if there is some hidden money behind my ceiling fan. I felt like I live a life in the Scarface movie. My secret: During the massive volcano eruption 2010 in Iceland, I had to stay in Miami 2 weeks more than planned because we couldn’t fly back. So we stayed after our 2 weeks of vacation 4 weeks total. We rent a hotel apartment in north Miami Beach. It was a spectacular decorated hotel, probably had its best times in the 1970s. We knew there where good parties going on in the good old Cocain Cowboys times. We stayed there and had a good time. Enjoyed the beach, we listened to a lot of music and I had to admit I tried out some drugs. But I never had a desire to do drugs consistently. So it was a onetime adventure. I’m an Artist and a dedicated creative – I like to play hard, but I love to work harder.
